Totally diggin' it man! I love keys with heavy music. Faith No More is my all time favorite band - they used just the right amount of keys to build the atmosphere and tension. You've got some of that going on here.

Todd Cooke's NS-2J (originally was Dave Fowler's bass). Woodstock era, trans blue, ebony board.

nice!! I've seen it. Beautiful instrument! I don't know if you've had one before but if you haven't you are absolutely going to love the 2J set up and the different tones that that provides

This is the first NS2J. I'd never played one until last week at Todd's shop. He brought a few from home as I really wanted to play all the variations side by side. I loved that NS-2J, so it was an easy choice!

I wanted to share with you the "epic" of the new album I am working on. This is a 7 minute piece that encapsulates the whole project quite nicely.

Keep in mind, these are just scratch tracks for the drummer to be recording on top of in June. Speaking of which, I booked one of the more prestigious drummers in Vancouver to do drums on this album; Ryan Van Poederooyen of the Devin Townsend Band. Needless to say I am pretty stoked about this. We're scheduled to record the drums in early June.

I mixed the bass up a bit on this one to give you an idea for the tone. I am using the Brooklyn NS-2 and splitting the signal into a Sansamp RPM (dirty) and direct (clean).

No vocals as of yet, but the vocal melodies are coming along nicely. Excuse the keyboard playing...this is my first time with this thing.

Hope you like this...even if it is 7 minutes long

After 21 years of bass playing, I finally bought one of my dream basses, a used NS-2A!!! (as a long time Queensryche fan)
It's classic white with black hardware and EMGs.
When I opened the back plate I noticed there was no preamp in it. Only two 9volts going directly to the pickups. It seems like the knobs on the front are V/V/T plus one fake knob.
I think the bass sounds great, but how much in tone do I gain if I put in a preamp like the Tonepump???
I hardly never use the EQ on the basses since I use the amp or pedals for all my EQing.
So any thought about preamp or not?

Get a tonepump! It'll mke you love it so much more Odd that it only came with two batteries hooked up to the pups. Guess it had some modifications done to it. Welcome the club in any case! Pics soon!

When I received the cracked one, I let it warm up for a couple hours before I opened it. It wasn't that cold here actually when it was delivered. 52°, and 25° the night before. This is a warranty replacement... so I'm sure its insured. Thanks tho, I'm definitely giving it more time to warm up this time.

When I received my Coda 5XL DLX in Dec. 2012, I was in Columbus, OH. at the time, I opened the box right away with not a problem. As long as it comes in a HSC and the shipping box is well padded there shouldn't be a problem. Looking back, all of my Spector basses seem to come in the wintertime . Of course the two Forte's were matte finishes. But I do give a 1-2 hour warmup to house temp before plugging them in. Of course it takes 1-2 hours to stop drooling and being mesmerized. Lol

Congratulations on your Spector White NS-2A! Welcome to our family! I've not seen nor heard of a NS-2A without a preamp IMHO, I'd put either a TonePump or a 9V HAZ Copy preamp in it. It'll make a HUGE difference that you'll hear. Especially if you want the true full Queensryche sound experience.

Hello Spector brothers, how many of you guys strung your Spectors with Ernie Ball Cobalts and what are your impressions? Asking because I used one set for quite a long and loved the sound but they are a bit rough feeling especially when they are new so there might be extra wear of the frets and some people report of them eating frets. Not long ago I took them off and re-strung my NS-2 with a set of DR Low Riders which I used to like before but this time they seem to sound weaker after Cobalts....so now I'm thinking to buy another set of Cobalts or... Did you have any issues with them of that sort?

Ok. Is it a big difference between the Tonepump and the Hazlab copy? Where can I buy a Hazlab nowadays?

I suspect the previous owner took out the Spector pickups and preamp and just installed a new pair of EMGs (without the preamp)

I wouldn't say a huge difference but just a different flavor between the two preamps. The HAZ copy is a more growl/grit where the TP will give you more headroom, big full tone but you can dial in the growl but not quite the same, close. The HAZ Copy is very much like the USA 9V Spector HazLab sound that's in the USA NS-2. As for getting your hands on a HAZ Copy...just ask around on here...put it out that you're looking for one. As they're not made anymore. To get a USA HAZ they're $500.00 and get put on a wait list. Good luck!
Yes, someone pulled the original preamp and put EMG's pickups in. NS-2A's came with Spector branded passive pickups. The EMGs are much better.

18V active with no pre is odd.

+1 on the Tonepump, though.
Another awesome pre for these is an EMG BQ or BT.

How much would a good price for a Haz be? I think the Tonepump is pretty cheap ($99)
