SPECTOR® Club - Part 75

Hello Spector brothers, how many of you guys strung your Spectors with Ernie Ball Cobalts and what are your impressions? Asking because I used one set for quite a long and loved the sound but they are a bit rough feeling especially when they are new so there might be extra wear of the frets and some people report of them eating frets. Not long ago I took them off and re-strung my NS-2 with a set of DR Low Riders which I used to like before but this time they seem to sound weaker after Cobalts....so now I'm thinking to buy another set of Cobalts or... Did you have any issues with them of that sort?

I tried a set of cobalts on my NS-2A. I really loved the tone and it lasted for a couple months before sounding dead. But, I didn't like the 'texture' of the strings themselves - felt like fine sandpaper to my fingers. So, I didn't buy another set.

Just listened, sounds great!!! So vocals on this record? Are you singing?

Really nice work here seventh!

I like the aggressive tone you get from Cobalts, but usually played them with a pick, for those rare occurrences when I really rock out.
When I play fingerstyle, I really prefer flats, and have them on most of my current bass collection. Most of my stuff I play is solidly in the Motown/CR camp, so flats just plain work.

IN, just picked up this beauty today. $150 , with a strap AND hard case!!

Sounds like a F'n dream and the action is butter, I have a set of black nylon rotos at home that are dying to get put on lol

My thoughts exactly. The EB Cobalts have a nice tone, but nothing you can't get from a nice set of nickels. That and they literally ate my callouses. :(

Personally I just loathe fender-styled barrel-saddled bridges (personal vendetta that goes way back) I mean I guess they are cheaper but I think Spectors should have the wonderful Spector bridge. Don't think I would have got my Legend Classic 6 if it hadn't at least had the Spector bridge on it.

That rosewood fretboard is screaming out for some lemon oil, that will make it look even better.

Hello all Spector users!:)
After 21 years of bass playing, I finally bought one of my dream basses, a used NS-2A!!!:) (as a long time Queensryche fan:))
It's classic white with black hardware and EMGs.
When I opened the back plate I noticed there was no preamp in it. Only two 9volts going directly to the pickups. It seems like the knobs on the front are V/V/T plus one fake knob.
I think the bass sounds great, but how much in tone do I gain if I put in a preamp like the Tonepump???
I hardly never use the EQ on the basses since I use the amp or pedals for all my EQing.
So any thought about preamp or not?

Picture of my new dream bass will come soon:)

Hey, cool, when I got mine, it also had a battery wired to the pickups. Sounded nice, but I didn't like having two dummy knobs so I went for the EMG BTS. It's versatile and the bass still sounds very spector. Whatever pre you go with, I think it will sound great.

Anyone else think this looks like the 1st run of Warwick Rockbass Streamers that were considered terrible?

I really hope these aren't. :hmm:

Looks like they discontinued the Performer and this is replacing it. But I thought Rockbass for some reason as well.

They should have just offered this new finish and continued to call it a Performer. If they didn't sell it was probably thanks to the boring color offerings (Black & Red)... they should have offered a Natural wood color option - even Fender's Squier and Ibanez' GIO lines have a natural option and a nice variety of finishes.

Its an upgraded performer for sure... mahogany instead of basswood, but I'm betting it is a little curved like the Legend Classic. The 4 string also comes in a PJ config which is awesome!

Hey dudes, sorry been away for a little. Wanted to ask a favor...

A month or so I just missed a white fretless Brooklyn NS 2 on a local Craigslist for $800! Ever since then, I've had fretless SAS bad! If you see a USA fretless NS 2 (and provided YOU don't want it) can you give me a heads up? Thanks duders.
