That was exactly my experience as well.
Cobalts were the only string I've ever used where the texture was so rough they actually made loud popping sounds as each individual winding moved across the nut while tuning. I couldn't rip them off of my Euro LX fast enough. Replaced them with Elixer Nanos and have been very pleased so far.

True on the Cobalt's being rough. Months and months ago when everyone thought I was nuts for loosening my strings a tad to adjust my intonation, Cobalt's were the reason why. I felt like they were sawing at my saddles. But man they sound good when they're fresh.

That's what I feel about Cobalts too. I realized that I can do with this rough strings feel but my only conern is fret wear....DR just sound dull after them...

I picked one up last year for $60.00, that was the Korean HAZ copy, not the USA HAZLAB 9V.

Looks purtty to me! Beautiful quilt top on a mahogany body, what's not to like about that! I would prefer a Standard Spector bridge though. :cool:

Needless to say I am pretty stoked about this. We're scheduled to record the drums in early June.

I mixed the bass up a bit on this one to give you an idea for the tone. I am using the Brooklyn NS-2 and splitting the signal into a Sansamp RPM (dirty) and direct (clean).

No vocals as of yet, but the vocal melodies are coming along nicely. Excuse the keyboard playing...this is my first time with this thing.

Hope you like this...even if it is 7 minutes long :P

That sounds like a new priced Legend 5. You can get excellent used on GC used Spector page for a lot less, under $300.00. And if you're not satisfied you can return it within 30 days. These are great playing/sounding basses. You'll love it. :bassist:

While doing some spring cleaning today (vacuuming out the dust from my Spector bass cases), I noticed the plastic bag for my NS-4 truss rod wrench had some writing on it.
It says "NS-4, DW neck". I assume this stands for Doug Wimbish neck.
If that's the case, then my amber NS-2 also has a Wimbish neck, as it is even thinner than my NS-4 neck.
Curiously, I find both NS necks to be very similar in shape to my Euro LX (white, and not a Wimbish model), and all 3 necks are a bit chunkier than the thin necks (of non-Spectors) that I normally prefer.
If anyone knows what "DW neck" actually stands for, please chime in.

I use a Hartke 410 and a 115, but with a Peavey head and it sounds phenomenal. This is my first Spector (but not last!!)
I picked up this Performer 4DLX for 150$ cuz a guy owed me some $$ on an auto repair. It had been sitting in is closet so it was dirty as hell and needed new strings. I had a set of Roto black nylon coated flats at home and it sounds and looks AMAZING. I'll get some clips as soon as my interface gets here!!

It's a great instrument and you'll love it, but there's no reason to pay nearly that much; used models in great condition come up all the time for around half that, checking out GuitarCenter.com's used section is a great place to start ;)

Stands for Doug Wimbish. Measure the nut width....is it 1.5"?
