Tonight was the first time I'd played bass guitar with any brass instruments, Baritone, 2 Trombones and 2 Trumpets. That was really different. We're practicing together for an Easter cantata where there will be a choir, Grand Piano and a table full of silver bells, at our Church on Easter Morning Service. Challenging right now but still a lot of fun

Nah...8 strings doesn't excite me right now, but, I've never found the TPjr mediocre. It has a really good tone to it. I wish Spector would've called it a different name as I wonder if it gets stigmatized as being inferior to the TP because it's a Jr. It's used widely by big name professionals on stage worldwide. I never found it lacking in the tone dept.Am I the only one underwhelmed by the 8-string in the new Spector models video?
I have a Schecter Deluxe 8-string that has essentially the exact same bridge, its got EMG-style soapbars made by the bass manufacturer (like the SSD soapbars in the Spector 8), and a mediocre 2-band EQ (like the tonepump Jr.). The Schecter isn't bad with an improved preamp and actual EMG pickups, but I'm kinda disappointed that Spector's offering is pretty equivalent to the Schecter, instead of being significantly superior like Spector usually is.
I mean, the only significant difference is the shape of the body and neck, and the finish.
It's about time the Legend got the P/J pickup configuration though, love it! I'd like to see the same config on the Legend 5 instead of just soap bars. Even though the soap bars have their advantage of being able to swap them out for other tone flavoring.

Definitely up for the challenge, that's what makes bass playing fun. Reminds me of the band Chicago but without electric guitars. Lol The song was written for the old big Organ but since our church doesn't have one our music director thought of me & Big Blue.That sounds like a lot of fun and i am certain you are up for the challange.
Tomorrow I sit in with our choir & piano. Maybe, just maybe, after this I might look into finding an opening playing bass for an orchestra...there an Opera House in Wabash just 15 miles from me. HmmmThat's too bad

Would anyone here with a 'Kramer era' neck profile bass care to fill in this chart:
My 'Kramer era' Spector NS-2 has the exact same neck dimensions as Patrick Stern's Brooklyn era #739.
Anyone know when the neck profile changed? My bass was born in June 1986. It was one of the first ones to have graphite rods inserted in the neck, so I know the neck profile did not change at the same time as they started using the rods for added stability.

I've played Legends & even a Schecter 8 string. The Schecter's nice, and a neck thru, but it doesn't have an NS body.
I'd take the Legend 8 just for that reason. lol I'm also quite comfortable on a Spector neck profile.
Something unexpected happened today. I'm on vacation with the familiy in Florida, and while driving, I mentioned SpectorHang 2014 to the wife and told her all about it and she said "that sounds great, are you going to go?" I was pleasantly surprised to have her on board. Now, I just need to make sure nothing comes up with the kids between now and then and I may just be making the trip.
So the question then becomes..... which Spector should I bring.... Spalty or the new NS-4MM?
I would bring both if possible, is your wife making the trip with you?

The schematic above worked for my wiring, but it doesn't show the blend pot.
Realistically, there are 2 ways you can do it. You can go blend straight to the pre and then run the volume as a 100k pot on the hot out from the pre...or you can do it as wired above where you go from the blend into the volume into the pre.

Oops, read that too quickly. I thought you said Cantina instead of cantata:
Here's an older EMG installation information PDF for the BT series bass preamps, before they went solderless. Took me a while to locate it but I found it! The quantity and color of wires coming out of the preamp board are identical to your's so just carefully follow the instructions and review the drawings and you should be good.
