Spector bass?

Never heard of Spector? I honestly don't know how that is possible.

Spector have some of the nicest flamed top finishes and have both a US and UK product line. Their tone is modern and some say Warwick and Spector competed with one another design wise ( not materials wise). I've always wanted a Rebop model, atleast to try because of the cut out area that supposedly allows you more room for slapping.

Watching The Price is Right and one of the prizes to bid on to get on the show was a Spector bass, for $1200.

Looking at it I thought it was an off brand worth about $400. It did have a figured maple top (maybe- or just a nice silk screen).

And the announcer clearly said Spector, not Schecter.

So I did a quick online search, and found that the company has been around since 1976. A fellow named Stuart Spector started making handmade basses in his workshop in Brooklyn. He didn't want to copy established designs, so he recruited a woodworker named Ned Steinberger and created the Specter NS-1.

Never heard of these basses before. Now I've got another bass to GAS over.

Is this a VERY early April fools post? A TBer who hasn't heard of Spector... hmmm.

Terrible model name for a bass. I can never understand why manufacturers of any kind choose to name their products with code. Looks like a sweet bass though.

I just about choked too. $3900 for a Spector Euro?? Really worth maybe 2400 or so. That means 1500 bucks for 10 one hour bass lessons or 150 bucks an hour.

Spector started in 76, NS design is by Ned Steinberger for Stuart Spector in 77, Warwick was founded late 82 and the Streamer design was launched 84; a ripp off; or as architects maybe would say; a citation (in respect of an already established form)
Just check the warwick next to the Spector on the previous page....

I think the first time I really learned about Spector was Mike Starr from Alice in Chains. What a great band they were.

Agree - they both make some great instruments, I was just pointing out the history behind when someone seems to think they were competing around the same design; the NS design was born in NY in 77

Everybody is making Fenders; but not warwick I believe.
By the way; I also have a Warwick....

I own both. Both fantastic basses and they compliment each other well.
