So answers: if the extra money isn't an issue... Order a new one. You're talking about a guitar with new electronics, new everything and a lifetime warranty. The older Brooklyn models are really more collector guitars now. The electronics in them are 20+ years old and who knows how the guitar has really been treated.

Which leads me to the second question. If you are a pro-musician and this guitar is going to be used as a touring bass, or anything you have to depend on in a live setting. Get the newer bass. Again, what if the Brooklyn model's truss rod is close to being stripped... and you find this out one day 30 minutes before a show. Not good.

Now... the flip side... If you want an historic, first generation collectable NS-2... if you plan on playing it at home or in the studio... where you can have backup guitars ready or it's not something you have to have perfect and working flawless... if you're OK with the fact that if anything goes wrong with it there is no warranty... parts may be hard if not impossible to buy. The Leo Quan bridge on that model is out of production, the die to make new ones was destroyed and so if the bridge gives out, you have to try and find one on Ebay...
The Brooklyn models didn't have neck-reinforcements. So there is more of a chance that you can have neck issues.

The Brooklyn models are great. But I recently gave up on my dream of owning one because I really want to PLAY my SPECTORs. And something like that I'd want to be careful with... treat delicately... I'd be afraid to really play it hard.

So I've ordered new NS-2 models... and I'll be comfortable playing them.

Not trying to discourage you... but you can order a NEW NS-2 and know it'll be right out of the box... first time playing it. Or you can buy a 26 year-old bass that honestly you can never know what (if any) issues it may have the first time you pick it up.

Just my $0.02

And basically because I asked myself these same questions back in Feb before ordering my new NS-2.

Many thanks for the advice Patrick! That is totally great advice and just what i needed to hear! I think i am going to save up for a new NS-2. I definitely want to PLAY my Spectors as well.

Hi Guys. I would like to join the club. I have a Spector Euro LX Doug Wimbish Signature and my NS2A I have had since about '88 or '89.

My NS2A was my main player for about 8 years playing full time and used to be white but as my Dad said I "played all the white off of it", so I painted it black around '96. They messed up the plate on the front of the headstock, so there is no longer the "S" logo on the headstock.

So quick question: I am thinking about replacing the Tonepump in the Doug Wimbish signature with the USA 9 volt preamp (the "Hazlab"). Anyone done this to a Euro? Is it worth it? (Sorry if this has been discussed before...)

Very cool Video LimaGuy! Very Inspirational and interesting.

There was talk of the Doug Wimbish/Ian Hill Basses in different colors, I have a friend who has a Doug (Regular color) in Fargo who is waiting to receive his new Euro LX Doug Wimbish signature in Matte Black. He says he thinks it's the only one they have done like it. He is expecting it soon, I will see if I can get him to send some pics when he gets it.

I'm not sure who is handling your "Adoption" process... but, you're NO outsider!:D

Excellent video story! Very well done. Hope to see more in the future.

A Doug Wimbish Matte Black nice!!!! The Matte Black finish makes the neck very fast. P.S. There is a Ian Hill "Red" for sale on ebay now.

Looks like you have a stacked knob for...? Do you have the hazlab copy in it still?

I remember him from the Apple Dumpling Gang with Don Knotts. Yep. That's him.

He actually works for NBC Universal... heads up one of the editing departments.

The band he's in, Band from TV, is a bunch of A-List TV stars like Hugh Laurie (Dr. House), James Denton (Desperate Housewives), and Greg Grunberg (Alias, Heroes)... 100% of what they earn goes to charity. So it's a great thing for SPECTOR to be involved with.

I met Greg on a TV/film set out here... I was wearing a SPECTOR shirt... I'd brought one of my SPECTORs to the set for one of SPECTOR's other artists to use for this TV episode they were guest starring in. Greg was one of the main regular stars of the show.

Greg and I started talking music... one thing lead to another. And SPECTOR signed Brad as an endorsed artist. I've shot a couple of their concerts now. And Brad's a really great guy.
