Your project looks beautiful! I really like the understated headstock, it matches the body very nicely. The gold tuners look sick with the dark wood! Will you finish it in oil, matte, gloss, or just leave it raw?

Thanks! The neck and headstock are finished in Gloss clear coat... several coats...;) The body will be Oil Rub?... I'll have to go back to Spector.com and see what the finish really is. It says Matte but, I don't FEEL any top coat unless it's very thin. So, I'm thinking just furniture polish on the body.

I can't compare it to my Legend, really... different electronics, wood, strings, etc.... But, I think it for what it was designed for, it sounds great. It has the EMG BTS system in J/J pups in blend, vol, bass cut/boost, treble cut/boost. It goes from a lot of growl and punch to the clarity and tonal beauty of a piano... :cool:
Intonation is near perfect open, @ the 12th and every fret is dead on except the low G (the usual dead spot) is sharp just a hair - about a 1/4" off center on my Korg tuner.

You did an incredible job on this:hyper: I remember seeing this for sale on ebay. When I first saw the photos of the body last week I didnt realize it was that bass.:confused: Looks amazing and I can just imagine the sound coming out of that bass rig...wow:bassist:

Thanks, BassGiant and LimaGuy... I still have some work to do. It did look pretty horrid on eBay, huh? LOL.. ya know, I deleted it 4 times out of my watch list... It just seemed to call to me for help, I just can't explain it...
Sometimes I just have to reassemble it and play....

Stuart uses a matte polyurethane finish. Not sure which one. You can always email [email protected] to ask.

Honestly, I'd be tempted to grab a cheap ebay Performer model or something you wouldn't mind hacking apart to grab the top layer off the headstock so you could have the Double-S logo.

I love the wood finished look. It's great. But I miss that MOP Double S...

In all... an amazing restoration. You've got something special now. A one-of-a-kind... Enjoy playing it.

How is the sound? You'll have to post some Youtube videos. I imagine coming out of the monster rig behind you in your photos... it's gonna sound EPIC!

Ahh.. I have matte polyurethane... very nice...
I'll probably lam the body this weekend..
I notice now that the neck does have a very slight sideways bow. You can see it in the pic of it on the wall. The low E string is pretty close to the edge around the 12th Fret.
I'm not much of an E string bender so, it should be OK for me.
This one won't be for sale...ever... anyway.
I may be able to correct for that by filling the neck bolt holes, realigning it and redrilling the bolt holes ... maybe, maybe not. I'll have to do some measurements and see what my tolerances are.

PJ said I can buy the complete ebony veneer... I do like the natural NS-1 look of the headstock, though.
Maybe I can get the SS logo alone and inlay it by itself... that would be :cool:.

There are only 3 pics of me playing in the last 10 years in existence... afaik. Youtube video??? I'll trade you that video for your ns4... :D

Ned designed this one too. And it's a shame that it didn't really take off. I've always thought this body was JUST as comfortable as the original NS-Body design.

It's very, very similar to the last body design Ned did before selling Steinberger Sound to Gibson.

I owned a QX-5 Steinberger for a while. Great bass, but bolt-on and not curved. But check the body design out. Very similar.

Best to contact the guys at Cue's shop.....[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

^ These are the guys that put the finishes on all of Stuart's instruments, as well as others. Fabulous workmanship that comes out of this shop. The guitarist in my band runs their paint shop. Great people.
