Okay. I got a serious question for you guys.
I play a 5-string Spector ReBop, but I don't find myself using the bottom string at all. So I don't know whether to try to trade it for a Spector 4 string, or just an entirely new bass. I love the necks on Spectors, but with the genre I play, I feel a Spector would be a little much. So what would you guys do? And if I were to trade it for a new 4 string Spector, which model would have an equal value?

Also what genre do you play where it's "a bit much?". You see Spectors from Springsteen to AIC to Godsmack to BTBAM, etc. There's no bass that exists which is "too much" for any genre...
AFA trades go that's up to where and who you try and swap with but I'd just learn the 5 honestly. I don't use my B on every song so I just mute it with proper technique when it's not being used. All takes is just a lil practice...
You can use the B string for more notes in one hand position, not only for the low extra notes. It gets really comfortable when u get used to it.
And as the person above said, what does "too much for the genre" mean?
I got the 5-string, because I was original going to be playing in a Progressive Metal band, sort of like BtBaM, but they got a bassist before I could try out. So a few friends and I decided to start a Pop Punk band (Hate me for it). And when I mean "Too much", I mean there's just a lot EQing and stuff that's really not necessary.

I just purchased this beauty from Beaver Felton at Bass Central. I've been eyeing it for some time.
I confirmed with PJ... this is the ONLY gloss black NS-2 to come out of the Saugerties shop in the past 10 years.
Gloss black is a very rare color anymore for SPECTORS (since the Kramer days when it was one of the most common colors).
Once I get it I'll post some proper photos.
Other than the special-order gloss black paint job... it's a stock NS-2. USA 9v Circuit (Has), Pau Ferro fingerboard, Abalone inlay and solid AAAA Maple wings.
This will be my main player. I also ordered a Genz-Benz Shuttle 6.0 (600W) amp/cab combo. The guys at BC say that the Genz-Benz amps really bring out the growl.
I've heard that they tend to be a little "brighter" than Ampegs and GK amps. Which would make sense... the growl is in the upper-mid area... Or at least that's the EQ area I have to augment to get the growl out of my NS-4. Which honestly the 18v circuit isn't as "growly" as the 9v.
I'm totally stoked. My BEM custom NS-2 should be ready by the end of the month.
Man are the neighbors gonna hate me this summer.

Wonderful bass Patrick!! Call me crazy, but depending on the color sometimes i prefer the mother of pearl inlays over abalone inlays. On this bass the inlays are gorgeous ,they go well with the black. But with the really figured quilted maple sometimes it clashes depending on the color. I heard one of the rarest colors back in the Kramer days was tobacco sunburst I think only 27 made. I was fortunate to see one in person. Guy had one for sale in Memphis, he let me check it out.It was the prettiest tobacco finish i have ever seen! And the maple was nearly as figured as today's Usa models Unfortunately i did not have the money. Have only found one for sale since and the guy knew what he had and wanted major bucks for it.

Not to hyjack the thread but....
An AH600SM or SMX can be had for around 450 -600 and the 1518 for around 300... Does that sound a bit easier on the wallet/budget.
I got BOTH of my AH1200SM amps for 435 and 416 respectively and 225 for the 1518 (with a new DirRep Trace Elliot Celestion 500 watt 8 ohm driver)..

You sir, are a great man. I will do my best to get myself a Trace rig. I love green, and that's even more of a reason to buy a Trace. Haha.
If you like the bass and it sounds the way you want it to, who cares how much EQing it required? Unless there was a serious comfort issue, I personally would hang onto it and get comfortable with the B, have some fun with it. Kind of like driving a manual transmission car... you may never own one, but it still pays to know how should the need ever arise

Beaver's shop is Bass Central, right outside of Orlando, Florida.
Beaver and I grew up in the same town, Savannah, Georgia. He was born there and I was born in Nashville and moved there when I was 10 years old.
