So I was having buyer's remorse with my Euro 4LX - the sound wasn't as good to me as when I first bought it. Then I played it unplugged, and realized the strings were deader than dead. The strings sounded great when new, but lost their luster quickly. I've read that the Spectors ship with generic Czech strings, rather than Spector-branded USA strings?

Anyway, I put a new set of Fender nickels on, and the magic is back! I chickened out on putting some SS Lo-Riders on, as I wanted the sound when I first got the bass, and the old 7250's did the trick. When these die, I'll probably go DR.

There is a 2003 NS-JH5 QM that just got relisted on Ebay for a great price.
My GAS is acting up but this is out of my $$ range, although if it was a 4 string I may have just went for it and opted have my car taken away next month.

Thought someone here would be interested.
(the seller claims it was only played a few times, less then 2 hours)

I may have to try DR strings again. I did a ways back, but at the time they didn't do it for me. I've been using DM blue steels ever since. I really like those!

I'm using custom catgut wrapped SS strings. In the black-light they are iridescent

Inspiring story, Sam....thanks for sharing it! I have a stent too (only 1), and a developing blockage in a "Y" junction which cannot be corrected with a stent, so I feel for you. It's one reason I try to enjoy life as much as possible. Music definitely helps. Rock on!

Had a chance to sit down and play for the first time since the baby came home last week... man, my Streamer (BLASPHEMY!!!) and NS5-H2 are just golden instruments. REALLY feeling the love for the versatility of the Spector; these US bolt-on models are criminally underrated IMO. A crappy pic

I've been trying to sell my XBOX for months. If I could do that, then I'd have at least half of what he's asking, and have a better chance of getting it.
I'm curious as to what it really is though. Because a Legend at $700, used, is a little much. This guy's Spector is a little pricey, too...

It looks like something is up with this one.

First... pearl dots or crown inlays... sure. But this one has nothing. Which would have had to have been a special order. And it's a special order color. So that's fine.

But I've photographed close to 100 USA Spectors at this point and I have to tell you I know how light reflects off these necks like the back of my hand.

And there are some reflections from a light source on the neck that show some inconsistancies with the shape that fingerboard should have.

It looks to be slightly damaged...

Of course it could be bad JPEG compression on a badly lit photo.

The price is very low too. Things that make you go mmmm...

Thanks for the kind words I've had this one for a good long while now, so it's not the one out of the classifieds, but that rosewood neck sure did look tempting

And yes, it is a human baby, and he and mom are doing great. Our sleep schedules on the other hand...

I think the strings are obscuring the dot inlays....

The only model I can find that "looks" like it is...
It does have the deep socket bolt on neck... so, it's not a Legend 5... but does have the black Locking bridge and hardware, just not the Crown inlays....... Anybody have an idea...

Since I brought this to the attention of the forum, I just sent the seller a message asking if this was a special order from Spector and if they can provide the ser# and date it was made from the back of the headstock.

From the description they provided in the listing; they either have no idea about basses or something is fishy.
Quote "IT HAS BEEN CHECKED OUT BY LOCAL GUITAR AND MUSIC SHOPS, ALL SAYING IT IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND A VERY GOOD ITEM"

They just joined ebay on 5/24/11 and this is the first item they are buying/selling, which adds to the "fishy" taste.

This positioning is actually reversed,
except for one thing:
Either the lighting is goofy or that is a TW, not a DC.

FWIW, it seems in my constant and almost embarrassing on-line Spector voyeurism, I'm pretty sure this is not the first of this model I've seen without any inlays or dots. But I could be wrong. The Forte series might be throwing off my memory.

There are no dots. The bass is seen from two opposing angles (one extreme) and you would definitely see something. They're too easy to see on similar models that have them.
