Play with it and see what sounds best for you.

I have my Euro4LX-TW-35 at 50-60%
I had my Euro4LX-Classic at 30-40% (currently on its way to metallicafan18)
I have my NS-2A Fretless at 50-60%

That seems to sound best to my ears. But you may like 80-100% better. I know some people who like 20-30%...

It's a subjective thing.

Leave your back cover off (since you have active self-shielding EMGs you pretty much won't get shocked unless you put your tongue inside the guitar while it's plugged in) and adjust the TP while you're plugged in.

I use a set of headphones, really nice high-end JVC studio headphones that I paid $150 for to hear the fine distinctions when adjusting this sort of thing. Depending on the room you're in you might not always hear everything the amp is expressing.

Hey thanks JPS for that tip! I was just wondering about whether to leave the cover off or not. And great idea on the headphones! I have some Sennheiser HD 280 Pro 64 ohm. Love them!

Like JPS said, It is a subjective thing.

I first had my Euro 4LX down to 20-30% and it was a little too thin for my ears. My sweet spot is at 50-60%.

I also made the final adjustments using a pair of headphones.

Did you set both tone controls flat when making the adjustment?

What/Who makes good sounding amplified headphones so when I travel I don't have to take an amp? I hear the Audiovox setup is not all that great but, I have not tried one myself yet.

Not sure about amplified headphones but I use a Tascam CD-BT2 portable bass trainer with Sennheiser HD 515s and it sounds great.

Did you set both tone controls flat when making the adjustment?

Yes, I set both tone controls flat and set the both tone controls flat on my 01 Euro which has a Aguilar OBP-1.

I used that as a comparison. At about 30% they matched evenly with volume. Then I started adjusting the tone controls. The boost on the bass end of the Tonepump was a bit too thin. So eventually I set it at 50-60% and I love the boost I get on the bass end now.

You may want to start with comparing your NS-95 flat to the Tonepump flat.

It was so weird... :ninja: I sold my Gene Simmons Axe, and the money just flew out of my pocked to Guitar Center...;) Yes, this will be Spector #6. I am planning on converting this one to a fretless.
Sneaky! When did you decide to sell your Gene Simmons? Arg!!! You're one up on me now!
Lol...:rollno: what color? Woohoo! More pictures!

I got to talk to Rex at namm about his basses and he lit up when he started talking about his euros and was stoked when I told him about mines.

I currently have my euro 4lx 35" down to a Low A with a .130 and no issues at all. In the past I've gotten a liking to drop C with a .105 on a 35" which is what my Rex5 pro is.

Drop tuning tends to get a bit "loose" in the low end... And I've found if you use string gauges that are too large I feel even though the tension is there... It can sound boomy. ...this is from my experience so YMMV depending on the kind of tone you want. On my euro which is a p-Jazz I roll my p-pup back... Jazz open and boost the bass(tone pump pre) and I can still get that "Spector growl" that seems to get lost when I down tune.

That is so cool that you got to talk to Rex. I thought we might lose him for a second there since he started to play more and more ESP basses but now that he has the RXT, I hope he stays with Spector. He seemed to really like that Coda in the video.

Did you tune the E string of your Rex Pro down to C with the .105? I have the stock Spector strings on my Euro 5LX but I am not sure what gauge the E string is since the Spector site says the 5 string tapered sets are 45-130.

My daughter asked me to play along to a few Disturbed songs and I tuned down to D flat with my E string and it was still very much playable and not floppy at all. I only kept it like that for one song though as I don't want to mess up my neck or anything since it's not setup for that. On a side note for Disturbed, 3 songs on the first cd each had a different tuning which was super annoying :(

My plan is to get a 35" scale Euro 4LX but for now, I will just tune the EADG strings down for songs that are too tough to play on the 5 string. I try to play them with the BEADG tuning and can play a good amount of the C# or C standard ones but when they start doing a bunch of open string stuff, it's a bit rough fretting every note.

I actually decided to sell the AXE, a while back. I was holding it for a guy who was saving up for it. It was just wall decor for me. It's really impossible for me to play with that body since I am sitting 95% of the time while I am playing.

It is that "famous" Sunburst color. Here is a photo they sent me. You can see it needs a good cleaning.
$349 plus tax, free shipping.

I am planning on converting to a fretless or maybe do BEAD, maybe you can convince me. :D

Do you use the Dunlop neck conditioner? I need to give my white NS-2A a good cleaning. I will also need to do a good cleaning on another NS-2A that I just ordered from Guitar Center yesterday. It was so weird... :ninja: I sold my Gene Simmons Axe, and the money just flew out of my pocked to Guitar Center...;) Yes, this will be Spector #6. I am planning on converting this one to a fretless.

Another one? Man LimaGuy, you just can't stop can you? Good for you dude. I thought I had you sold on a Euro 5LX though so maybe I shouldn't come over again or Spector #7 might be ordered :D

As for the drop tuning on a 35" scale 4, 5 or 6, I have been using a std set .45 .65 .85 .105 .130 and replaced the .105 with a .110 E string and the lower tension drop of C and C#. It works fantastic and no flapping in the wind and tone loss of low tension. Yes, I play aggressively. ;) Spector's can handle alternate tunings quite well if the string tension is there.

Ooooooh! YES! BEAD really brings out that Spector Growl even more so! Adds a very heavy punch! Sounds as mean as a "junkyard dog"! Same color as the one I sold last month. I believe it's called "Cherry Burst". I paid $50.00 less from GC. And I know where you can get a great "Brass Nut" made! ;D Changing out the graphite nut made a remarkable difference in the tone too.

The $ I got for thte Axe just about matched the price of this NS-2A. So I had to go for it.

HAHAHAHA!!!

Pretty soon he will have more than JPS!:D

I think I have more then JPS :hiding: but he is still the King since he has USA's ;)

This shipping cost is crazy. The Axe cost me $26 to ship to MI. UPS, 15lb box 51X8X18.
It may be cheaper to ship them seperate? Shall we look into that this week?
