Spector Club - Part 11

2 more days till I get my Euro4LX form Patrick! I got a name for it too already. It's gonna be "Boilermaker". The bass is black and gold, and the college I will be attending after this last year of highschool is Purdue. The school colors are black and gold, and the Purdue's mascot are boilermakers. So I think it fits great. I cannot wait!

Hi all, since I made some pretty positive progress today on the restoration of my wounded NS5 CRFM I thought I would try my hand at a restoration thread and chronicle the activity. I invite everyone to follow along and give me the atta-boys where deserved and the scorn where that's due. Thoughts, recommendations, tips and experiences are all welcome and requested.

I just saw the video for "Breaking the Silence" from Operation:Mindcrime by Queensryche on VH1 Classic this morning in our hotel. I always wondered, Eddie Jackson played all American Spectors, Right? I always assumed because they were so big at the time that they were all custom made American's for him, although he had lots of variations of hardware, and he played a white one with black hardware and no inlays (Like Wendy Testaburger) which made me order my first Spector, a white NS-2.

I saw them on that tour, the Empire tour twice, then the next tour, for Promised Land, Eddie was playing Fernandes Basses. No more perfect tone, no more coolness, I was almost done, then Degarmo left the band, I was done.

Opinions? Eddie Jackson on Operation:Mindcrime and Empire Best Recorded rock tone?

My vote=Yes...perfect Spector Growlyness, I would take that tone all day long.

Great recorded rock tone, yes. Best, eh...I'd go with one of the best.

After miraculously surviving it's shipping experience in a crushed box, with no case, and virtually no packing protecting it...

and after a generous cleanup, and setup, and touch up and new strings...

I have to say i'm very smitten with this Rebop 5.

(I'm digging the combination of a Big Al 5's versatility and the Rebops attitude.)

That is an amazing looking ReBop!
I guess you got it used? I mean having it delivered and seeing a crushed box... It would have totally freaked me out... I'm glad it's OK.
I love the finish and the wood. That's one seriously nice looking bass. Congrats!!!

Beautiful Rebop! Which EMG pickups are those? I know the Rebop's normally come with EMG-HZ but those don't say that on them so are they DC's? Sounds like you bought it used since it wasn't packed too well and maybe the previous owner swapped out the HZ's.

Ya know...I'm really diggin my Spector-Core Fretless 4.

It had a shorting out problem. But I fixed that, the printed circut board for the Fishman was floating about in the control cavity! Fixed.

The piezo bridge PU rocks.

Don't really care for the lines neck.

I know it's a cheaper Spector...but I still love it.:cool:

DC's in it. And it was apparently a natural finish bass that was dark stained then finished over. There was overspray and some seeping onto natural wood areas but nothing some cleanup and detail work didn't fix. It got to me fine I guessso other then an old man like "shame on him" I really don't have much to bitch about... All things considered.

Plays and sounds now as good as it looks.

LIMAGuy!

I'm looking forward to hearing this NS2-A on Soundcloud....you were the one who told me about it when i mentioned that i
wanted one but was a paycheck or two away from being able to get it.

I could have been as of last week, but I've got to get my Cat to the Vet & take care of some other things i was behind on when i was unemployed.

Anyway, my Birthday's in November...if i work hard enough, there may even be enough for a new US NS-2 by then, but i'd really love
to get an NS2-A or a CRFM/Early Euro with the matte gold bridge (preferably in Red).

I've seen those go for great prices here, too.

Hey a SPECTOR is a SPECTOR. And a fretless with piezo and semi-hollow is awesome sounding. I love the SPECTORCore models. I love that Piezo bridge setup. You can get some great sounding stuff out of it.

Evening, gents. I have a question for those of you who are more knowledgeable about Spectors than I am.

I frolicked on up to my local Guitar Center today and I was playing around on some basses (MusicMans mostly; played some nice ones) when I happened upon a Spector that was hiding in the corner. It was a used one, so the information was a little incomplete. The tag only said "Used Spector Euro 4 Nat"

It was a neck-through with gold hardware, P/J configuration, Spector stamped bridge. There wasn't a serial number or anything on the headstock, so I assumed it must be in the control cavity.

My question is this: what Spector era would this be from? (It's not SSD; there's a Spector logo on the headstock) Also, is $650 as much of a steal as it sounds like for this bass? It was essentially pristine as far as I could tell.
