The first Spector I played was a rebop and I was hooked

Evening, gents. I have a question for those of you who are more knowledgeable about Spectors than I am.

I frolicked on up to my local Guitar Center today and I was playing around on some basses (MusicMans mostly; played some nice ones) when I happened upon a Spector that was hiding in the corner. It was a used one, so the information was a little incomplete. The tag only said "Used Spector Euro 4 Nat"

It was a neck-through with gold hardware, P/J configuration, Spector stamped bridge. There wasn't a serial number or anything on the headstock, so I assumed it must be in the control cavity.

My question is this: what Spector era would this be from? (It's not SSD; there's a Spector logo on the headstock) Also, is $650 as much of a steal as it sounds like for this bass? It was essentially pristine as far as I could tell.

Guitar Center seems to never identify Spectors correctly.

I assume Nat was for nautral color?

Did it have the crown inlays or dots?

From what you are describing it sounds like it may be a
CRFM4 or Euro 4. (1999-2001) Did it day "Precision Crafted Under License in the Czech Republic" on the top of of the back of the headstock?

But those bridges as far I as know didnt have Spector on them?

If it a CRFM4 or Euro 4, then it is a great price. They usually sell for $800-1200 used.

If it didnt say Precision Crafted Under License in the Czech Republic" It may have been a NS-2A which would be high at $650. It may have also been a USA NS-2. Its happen before with Guitar Center. If that is the case then I suggest you go there tomorrow and buy it

That is a beautiful Rebop! The Euros seem to get more attention then the ReBops. I guess many Spector players equate the brand with the through-neck design, but as some that plays both, I can say that the ReBops are every bit as good as the Euros. The punchy bolt-on sound with the Spector tone is very cool.

Plus, I really dig the weight of my Rebop4 - less than 8lbs for 4-5 hour gigs = less pain. LOL

My Rebop5 is heavier, closer to 9lbs - still - for long gigs, not bad.

My NS-2A is also not too heavy.

I'm looking forward to hearing this NS2-A on Soundcloud....you were the one who told me about it when i mentioned that i
wanted one but was a paycheck or two away from being able to get it.

I could have been as of last week, but I've got to get my Cat to the Vet & take care of some other things i was behind on when i was unemployed.

Anyway, my Birthday's in November...if i work hard enough, there may even be enough for a new US NS-2 by then, but i'd really love
to get an NS2-A or a CRFM/Early Euro with the matte gold bridge (preferably in Red).

I've seen those go for great prices here, too.

I hope I didn't sneak steal it from you?

Amazing!!!!
I feel like I am hypnotized when I look at this bass.

You seriously need at least 2-3 minutes to look at it or you feel weird that you need more.

I challenge everyone to look at this photo and try to look away.

With gold hardware it should be a euro if it were dot inlays it would be an early one. If crowns a late one . Both should say crafted in the check republic on the back of the headstock for a euro bass. Ns2a's have black hardware, graphite nut, and Spector pups. Euros will have a brass nut and emg's. Both are good and usually go for a bit more. Sounds like a good deal. If no made in the check rep. Logo it may be a usa ns2. Those will have crown inlays as well.

Hey a SPECTOR is a SPECTOR. And a fretless with piezo and semi-hollow is awesome sounding. I love the SPECTORCore models. I love that Piezo bridge setup. You can get some great sounding stuff out of it.

Verrrry nice. I think that quilt is much, much harder to bring out and maintain the consistency of the depth of the quilt on a curved body instrument and that is just excellent. Plus, those are solid body wings and not a simple split/bookmatched top. Quality.

Thanks for all your help guys. It didn't have the "licensed" statement with Stuart's signature on the headstock either; there was nothing on the back of the headstock. This is why I'm wondering if it's a Czech bass after all. As for the inlays, I can't remember if they were crowns or dots.

The more I talk about it, the worse my GAS gets. Just got to sell a few items and she's all mine.

I have a 98 NS5 CR and there's nothing on the back of my headstock. The serial number is inside the control panel cavity.

Thanks for the pics. Yes, I Know Adam, and sold him that Ian Hill bass
it was a used demo when he bought it from us, but not from NAMM.

I say leave it the way it is, that's what we did after receiving it back from a demo.

So, This is coool. Not only does PJ know exactly which Ian Hill bass this is but, also where this bass came from AND he had it in his hands at one time.
Now, I know where it came from, where it was first sold and that PJ sold it and that I am the 2nd owner.

Lima... PJ says congrats on your good heart health, I mentioned the "Healing Powers of SPECTOR basses" you described earlier.

Glad that Todd had such a cool email from PJ.

I have to tell you all that PJ Rubal is sincerely one of the coolest, nicest people you will ever meet. And besides owning 1/2 of SPECTOR and being Stuart's close friend and business partner, he's the guy who goes out and meets with artists such as Ian Hill and discusses their history and their basses with them, then comes back to Stuart and says, "I was talking with Ian Hill and it got me to thinking..."

So many of the wonderful new things SPECTOR has done that you love, is a mix of Stuart and PJ working together from ideas that PJ comes up with.

The Ian Hill bass is a prime example.

So is The Black Pearl... it came about from conversations that PJ and I had after seeing the bass that Stuart built for Evan Seinfeld of Biohazzard... Todd Cooke's amber NAMM bass this past January and some crazy guy at NAMM who was trying to sell granite and semi-precious stones to be used for guitar inlays.
