Now here is my input.

Keep in mind if you get a NS-2A it may have a little issue or a big issue since something that age is never going to be in "perfect" shape. example: I got a NS-2A in May and it had a nut issue, not a big deal I replaced it. The NS-2A i recently got had a input jack issue and the battery terminal broke off as soon as I went to change the battery. Also not a big deal I replaced both. But be careful it could be something worse like a neck issue.

With that being said, I think a NS-2A is one of the best deals for a Spector. As JPS said a NS-2A over $500 is overpriced.
One of mine was $500 and the other was $380. As you proabably have seen the there are some NS-2A's way overpriced on ebay, craigslist etc....

Before I got my ReBop I saw everyone talking about never getting the right tone and then everyone talking about upgrading from the HZ-EMGs active EMGs. (Now that I own it, I understand why.)
In the recordings I did get a decent sound out of it. But when I play through my amp I either get too muddy of a sound or I get way too much crisp high-end. It seems to be lacking in the mid range area. But you mentioned this is kinda what you are looking for so it may be good for you.

I got my ReBop for $675 on a local craigslist sale. It is a 2004DLX in Mint condition. You cant find a scratch on it. The previous owner just played at church gigs every week.

Just curious, where are you located?
and what type of music do you usually play?

If you want I can do a another recording for you, if you want to hear any other style of playing being compared between the NS-2A and ReBop.

The ReBop neck is bit wider and thicker then the NS-2A's necks.
And I am sure you can see in the photos how the ReBop neck gets wider as it gets towards the bottom of the neck.

Not sure if you are into Slap style, "I am just getting into it and getting my chops up" But the NS-2A's IMHO are not great for slapping. I get much better feel and tone from the ReBop and Euros for slap style.

Now after all this info, not thinking money, if someone said to me, would you like a 2nd ReBop or 3rd NS-2A. I would take a 3rd NS-2A.

Oh no, that makes perfect sense, and it really does help clarify some things. I had planned on upgrading whichever bass I got eventually, and like I said, the NS-2A has newly installed active EMGs, which is definitely a plus. However, I thought the tone sounded a bit too punchy for my tastes...and the more mellow tone of the Rebop seemed be more appropriate for the music I generally play. I like a bit of everything, but most of the time I play progressive music, with a bit of metal here and there. I also quite like jazz music, and while both basses would probably work there, I think a Rebop has a warmer sound that suits all of the above quite nicely. Not too interested in slap, though it's fun to mess around with now and again. I was thinking of stringing whichever bass with DR Sunbeams in order to get the flatwound sound with the versatility of roundwounds.

I'm in southern Florida, by the way -- kind of out in the sticks, actually, so local craigslist hasn't turned up much. There aren't any Spector dealers within 100 miles either, so used options are pretty much limited to eBay and scouring TalkBass classifieds. I'm leaning more towards the Rebop right now, but I'm keeping my options open for now.

EDIT: Just noticed that the NS-2A I was looking was just bidded on not long ago; now its approaching $500 fast. Well there goes that plan!

Has anyone modified a ReBop with "HZ Pickups" with a BTS-HZ Preamp instead of the Tonepump? Or just the HZ Pickups with no Preamp?
As I am playing around with this more, I think my "tone issue" is coming from the 2004 Tonepump not having the trim output. Too much bass boost and too much Treble boost. On my Euro LX I have the Tonepump at 50-60% and I love the sound.

Also,
A new Tonepump with the trim output would swap directly with the current one?

I would love to have another . I had a neck through black with binding and diamond inlays on the neck . Very nice bass

haha! Mine's a III, also in black neck-thru with the diamond inlays. It is nice; mine needed some TLC with a new nut. So it's a true hazlab?

Anyway, sorry for the slight derailment....I asked in the interest of possibly trying it out in my Euro 4, especially since new ones from the Spector store are $300.

This was a last minute thrown together jamming session at a friends barn who's also playing drums in this video, lighting is typical barn hanging bare bulbs so pic quality is BAD...we'd been already playing for 4 hours in 90's degree temp when it was suggested to video a few songs. Everyone was exhausted! But...this is just for my homies on here, so hopefully that you could here the Ian Hill NS-2 playing thru my Ampeg B-15T Porta-Flex Flip-Top. Enjoy or Not!

I'm thinking of replacing my Jazz 5-string w/ a Spector 4, and looking for some feedback from Spector fans out there. I found two Legends for sale, both in like new condition, and same price.

#1 - Custom, quilted maple top, 3 piece maple neck w/ rosewood, gold hardware, passive EMG-HZs w/ active 3band EQ. Doesn't look a bolt-on neck, but doesn't look like neck-thru, either. Not sure of the production date or country.

#2 - Classic, with bolt on neck, bubinga finish, black hardware, active EMG/Spector pups.

I'm not crazy about the gold hardware, but given the same price, could anyone point me toward a significant selling point for one or the other? Or neither? It would be approx. $400-450, for either one.

The one with the gold hardware is a Legend Custom and it is a SET-NECK design. More sustain and although it has the EMG HZ pups, has a nice EMG 9v tone circuit in it.

The Legend Classic should have the same EMG HZ or even EMG SSD pups... so if it has active, they've been upgraded.

Both are nice guitars. It just depends what sort of a sound you are looking for. Typically, the Legend Customs are nicer guitars than the Legend Classics. And you can always upgrade the pups to active EMGs if you want.

I own the Bubinga Legend, but mine came with HZ pickups and gold hardware, so I'm kind of halfway between the two you're looking at aesthetically haha.

I love the look of the bubinga on the body, it's fairly unique, and I'd say that's probably a decent selling point for the Classic. Does the Classic you're looking at have the 3 band EQ? Because mine does, and I enjoy that quite nicely.

So assuming they both play well and you're not partial to either one based on looks, I would lean towards the 3 band preamp, because a lot of the higher end Spectors don't have that so it's nice to have.

Just my two cents.

I would think it should work with IE (9), the most wisely used browser. One link is not important enough for me to change my browser. Maybe my McAfee is blocking it for some reason, but I doubt it. I either get the "Internet Explorer can't connect....click to fix page (If I click to fix it tells me my internet connection is fine, which I can already see on my router display), or it just sits like it's loading forever.
Even tried entering the site in the address bar verbatim/copy & paste (not using the abreviated hyperlink). Still didn't work.

Do you have the WMV plugin? Alternatively, you can right-click and save to your computer. Then view it locally, provided you have Windows Media Player.

hmmm havent used IE in years and never used McAfee.

But i would suggest looking in to one of those to fix it? Dropbox is pretty quick and reliable for hosting

I had the Tonepump replaced on my pre-2008 Euro 5 LX. The wiring was a little different but my tech was able to handle it.

It was a great mod, tamed the beast just enough to make is usable but kept that juicy sound.
