Hard to explain, but the Tone Pump feels more hi-fi to me? There are similarities between the two, but the Haz has more body to it? Maybe a low mid thing?

Wish I could describe it better. It's hands down my favorite preamp....

Yup, and as far as the difference, give me a couple hours and I will let you know, the shop just called and it is done, but have to take my son to see Captain America before I pick it up! Sounds like a great afternoon to me!

I use a Trace Elliot 1518 & 1048H cabs normally but at home I'm using a 1518 and an SWR Goliath Senior 6x10 w/ horn.
I get better growl out if my 1048h, though...

There is something fishy going on with this seller. I sent him a very detailed email about all the details that were either wrong or just plain impossible in his original "1982 NS2 CRFM" ad.

Looks like he took a lot of that info to heart, however, he was claiming it had a Tone Pump. Now he's claiming he did this big upgrade to an Aggie OBP-1 with all new pots and everything.........on a bass he's trying to sell?!? In the last couple of weeks.

He went from "Mr. Experience" that had no clue as to the bass or it's possible build history, suddenly to "Mr. Experience" that did a bunch of "upgades" on a bass he's trying to get rid of?!?

There's something suspicious here as his new ad reads almost exactly like the info I gave him, but because of all the "upgrading" he performed. :eyebrow:

I would not send this guy a dime. :scowl:

For what it's worth I did the tonepump to hazlab upgrade in my white euro lx. I had the old non trimpot version of the tonepump and found the bass to be pretty much useless with that pre. Output was so high that it distorted everything even with bass and treble turned all the way down. The haz is lower output obviously. It maintains the overused "grit" of the tonepump but is much more useable tonally. If you dig into the e or a string on a Spector with a haz pre you'll know what I mean by grit. Think intro to "would" by Alice in chains. I will probably piss some people off by saying this but I found the relatively cheap emg bt 2 band system to offer a very similar tone. I have an emg equipped bass with nothing but a volume control and no pre to also have a similar sound.

I just did some studio recording with the haz euro and as soon as I have the finished product I will post a link.

I received the DUNLOP 01 & 02 FINGERBOARD CONDITIONER AND CLEANER which is recommended by Spector.

Wow... great stuff. :hyper:
Only $11.99 for the kit of both.

The dirt and residue that came off my NS-2A's was amazing.
(you can imagine being 22 years old)

The most improvement in overall appearance was on my NS-2JA-R. See below.
