Because I'm a big guy I'm worried about that signature Spector bass body looking small on me.

Oh my, I hope this dosent sound like I am going into a "strange zone"

Do you mean bigger as in tall? or tall and wide?

I am 6'2, 285 and the NS style body seems to look fine on me. Actually if you have a "gut" the curve fits perfectly.

P.S. Did you get a chance to listen to the sustain comparion track I PM'd you a few days ago?

@lowfreqfeek - Maybe it's psychological? I 'feel' like I'm straining more when playing my 5er. Also, I'm getting fatter with age, which pushes the bass further away from my body, lol.

@madbassplaya - some of the licks for that song use the open strings, or, rather, I use the open strings - the challenge would be to figure out the same line, 'reconstructed' for playing on the 6th fret of the B string. I think I'll do that! As far as how the bass looks on a bigger/taller person - I think that was one of the initial things about Spector that appealed to me. It 'fit' me.

That very well may be! I do know that ergonomics of my Spector are VERY different from all my other Fender-style basses (Ps, Js, G&L L2500s). The distance from the tip of the top horn to the 2nd fret on my Pbass is 13.25". My other two 35" basses are about 14" to the 2nd fret. The Spector is 15.75"! The 2nd fret is important because that's a very common position to be in.

So, it IS a long reach on the Spector, but I don't think it's because of the scale, but the design of the bass itself. Perhaps someone with both 34" and 35" Spectors can measure and chime in?

That's why my Euro 5LX is so comfortable to me. It has that contour that almost seems like it is made for players like me with a gut

That is why I am really enjoying my 5 string the more I play it and figuring out songs differently with the B string has been fun. Perfect example, I was playing along to "Stone the Crow" by Down last night which is tuned to C#. Rather than tuning a 4 string to that, I am figuring out some really cool ways to pull of parts of the song that work really well. Plus, there is just something wonderful about playing that thunderous B string on a Spector.

yep . It was a great concert. I wish i could have actually been there.

I hope they show all or at least most of the concert. Sometimes Palladia cuts them to be a half hour which is barely enough time to see many songs after you factor in commercials. It's the only place to see some of these shows though since a bunch of them I watched didn't seem to be released on DVD or Blu-Ray.

Never heard a B on any bass that can compare.

I'd like to hear a 39" Knuckle Quake one of these days, though.

Why not play it on the B string on the 6th fret?

I'm a big guy and 35 inch scale does not bother me...I actually like it even though my main bass is a 34 inch scale right now.

I prefer the sonic of that over playing F1 on the E string.

Thanks Sam for posting the sustain here! I've been waiting for it. I'm 6-2 195# no belly ( nothing meant fellas), but there's something about the Spector curved body that just says, "THIS IS COMFORTABLE"! It feels like it's a part of my body!

That is why I am really enjoying my 5 string the more I play it and figuring out songs differently with the B string has been fun. I find that having the B string with the type of music that I play, CCM, that the cords are grouped closer together and I still get that low sonic SPECTOR sound. Talking about saving on your arm reach by not having to reach to fret 1 on the E string...not that I have any worries in that Dept. In high school when I had a MGB my knuckles dragged the ground when I put my arm out the window! Lol

@LimaGuy...on your sustain test...to my ears it sounded as though #2 Euro-4 OBP1 sustained a little longer than the other 3, and definitely longer than the NS-2 JAR, but the ReBop was closer. Do you have a brass nut on the ReBop? After I put a brass nut on my former ReBop it made a world of a better sustain.

Ahh a White Euro LX ...looks amazing.

I will step up on behalf of the entire Spector club group and please ask you say a few words on how the HazLab sounds in the Euro LX. Comparison to Tonepump & or other Preamps out there.

The Euro4 does have alot sustain, the bit of extra sustain may have to do with the DR LO-Riders on it. The NS-2JAR definatly less sustain.
The ReBop has the original nut.

When you had your Hazlab put in, did the EuroLX Pot holes accomodate the thicker pot shafts on the HazLab or did they need to be widened as it says on the Spector website?

Here's a quick and dirty soundclip of the hazlab, both pickups on full, bass and treble on flat. Newish DR Hi-Beams .105-.045 on the bass. I plugged the bass straight into an M-audio fastrack Pro into Protools M-powered. No processing or compression.

The hazlab is obviously lower output than the old no-trimpot tonepump that was in there so the tones are much more useful. It works very well with the EMG PJ settup. Good grit and grind. With both pickups on full you get than nice scoopy hard rock sound.

My old spector NSCR4FM had an EMG BT circuit that sounded similar but the bass boost didn't have the "girth" that the hazlab has. I feel like the Haz makes a wider "hump" in the eq curve.

Awesome White SPECTOR bass! I think I need a white SPECTOR bass...My next one Too bad the Forte doesn't come in white...

It sounds amazing. I use M-audio into Protools also so I can really compare it to the sound I currently get. It is so smooth, clear but growly and deep at the same time.

I offically have HazLab GAS now... Do you mind if I ask how much it cost to install it?
