Spector Club - Part 12

The Spector strings have a .130 B string so I was thinking about possibly trying DR Lo Riders with the .130 B string and the Lo Riders have a higher tension than the Hi Beams.

The one thing about the Spector strings also is the E string feels like it is thicker than the usual .105 but nothing on their web site seems to say what size it is. It just says .45-.130 but I was just curious since the DR's I was looking at have a .105 E string. I have seemed to have good luck with DR but I am curious what everyone else is using.

I used the Spector Nickels .45 - .130 on my Rebop 5. B string is not floppy - I get a great sound from it too. I'm thinking of putting on a set of Elixirs or DR Black Beauties. I think it's pretty standard for string sets, if it starts with .45, that the E-string will be .105 Looking at the DR Black Beauties BKB-40, they list the strings as .40, .60, .80 .100 and .125

Cool, thanks for the info. I wasn't expecting the B string to be floppy on the Euro 5 but on a different 34" scale bass I tried them on, it came nowhere near the Spector. You get kind of spoiled :)

Those .130 Hi Beams seem pretty hard to find so I am not sure what I am going to do. The bass currently has a .130 on it right now so that is what I am used to which is why I am looking for sets with that gauge.

If you guys keep it up, there are going to be several new purchases of green stain Spector's if they can still be special ordered :)

I was eying that green Rebop on Bass Central but that green stain Euro is just pure sweetness. The last one I saw, somebody did a horrible hack de-fret job and tried to sell it for way too much on Ebay. It was very sad.

Really hard to go wrong w/ Hi Beams. Still my #1. I did install a new set of Dean Markley Super Round Med-Lt (45-128) strings on the Euro 5 Maby Bass because that's what was on it, what he gave to me and what he has used for a long time. They are pretty lively at first and I am trying to get them settled in. Time will tell. However, listening to them broken in and recorded they are not super zingy. Quite full really.

But I can certainly see me heading back to Hi Beams (although some Sunbeams could be on the list to try as well...).

I saw that one on ebay that you speak of... I offered him 650 + shipping - as is.... he relisted it 4 more times...:eyebrow:

You sure it wasn't a Euro4 ????

I meant to say that one was a Euro 5. It was such a hack job, I tried to block it out of my memory :D

Sorry, just re-read your question again. I could have sworn it was a Euro 5 but I could be wrong. I believe it had the TW pickups but I usually associate those with the Euro 5's but it could have been a 4. Now I don't remember and I can't see it on Ebay anymore....that is probably a good thing :)
