This is interesting... why do you think that is?
I have to admit that between my NS-2 and NS-4, I'll take the NS-2 any day of the week... but I do like the Pau Ferro fingerboard on the NS-4 better and can't really say why. I have no reference point for tonal differences.
Which is why when I get my new NS-2 in a few weeks (I'm picking it up from Bass Central while on the East Coast for some family stuff)... I'm wondering if I'll like the new NS-2 (Pau Ferro) over The Black Pearl... which I never really intended to play much anyway... it's a collector bass.
Which is why I think I've never really fallen in love with The Black Pearl... I don't think it's the fingerboard so much as I DON'T want to play it because it's so unique. The NS-2 I'm picking up I know is slated to be my main -everyday player.
I'd be curious to hear why you like the Pau Ferro better if you don't mind sharing.

Ok. So, I was thinking or ordering a TonePump for my NS-2A, from the Spector store. Shipping is $17.50?? I emptied my cart, and added strings to my cart - still $17.50 shipping. It has to be a mistake right? I can't wait for the Comfort Strapps to be available!!
I could never order something like that or the black pearl and not play it till my fingers fell off. Lol But that's just me.
My current love affair is with my newly acquired ns2000. Not a collector by any means, but after a fret job , new strings and a set up, she really plays like a dream.....and I'm not afraid to take it out of the house lol. Looks nice too. Just needs gold hardware now lol. I don't know what the pre is but it sounds great in this one. Nothing like the Hz's and pump originally in my euro.

I think if you spend more than $100, shipping is free. I ordered a set of Spector strings and they hit me for $8.50 in shipping which kind of made the strings being on sale not seem as good

Yeah, I noticed that too. The store's been revamped. But, I think mine was just a server error or something, because my shipping was $17.50 for knobs. Sure enough, I emptied the cart, signed out - signed back in, and it was back to normal. Probably a glitch. So...the new Euro bridge with intonation screws, TonePump, Comfort Strapp, and ski cap - should be good to go - cuz then, the shipping is free.

I think the the classic Pau Ferro/Rosewood looks better: Lastly, all the Spectors I have had have been Rosewood/Pau Ferro so I think it is just hard for me to get used to.

So I dropped of my Daughter at preschool today and she was so excited because she had her La La Loopsy doll for show and tell day, and I thought, man, that would be fun with the Spector club. I would like to see some of your basses and know the stories behind them. Okay, maybe it's dumb, but o well.
I'll start. Last night my sister mailed me DVD's of a benefit that she put on for my family and I back in February (I had leukemia, but it's gone now, I'm good). As I was watching, I realized something, this could almost have been called a Spector event.
There were 6-7 bands that performed, some of them were acoustic bands (Like my friends Mick and Casandra Mae, who is in the finals for Karaoke Battle USA tonight on ABC) and had no bass player. Every Bass player that played played a Spector bass. My friend Sean played his Euro Doug Wimbish signature, my friend Karl who played in 2 bands played his Euro 5 string, and I played 2 songs (Couldn't play any more than that, had numb fingers from the chemotherapy) and I played the Euro Doug Wimbish signature, so no other bass brand than Spector was played on the stage all night.
If that wasn't enough Spector, the local music store that I used to teach at, Marguerite's Music, a Spector dealer, donated a Spector Legend bass for the silent auction.
Here are pictures of Karl and Sean, 2 of the best people and bass players I know.

Wow! Marguerite's Music. Now there's a blast from the past. Are they still in their original location in Moorhead (Minn.)?
I grew up in Bismarck/Mandan and lived in Grand Forks on a couple of occasions (to either side of my Minneapolis residence) and made frequent trips there back then (early-mid 80's).
We've been past there twice this summer as my daughter is started college in Moorhead. Both times I wanted to stop, and on neither trip could we make time to do that.
Next trip, it is going on the schedule! I'll make sure to give 'em an, "Attaboy!"
About 7-10 years ago the city asked them to move so they built a new store on the south side of the interstate about 6-7 blocks from their old location. Nice new store, Marguerite passed away a year or two ago, her daughter runs the store now.

They are a Spector dealer and always have 5-7 nice Spectors in stock. Last time I was there this summer, they had a couple of nice Euro 4lx's and a couple of the bolt on Americans.
