Congrats man. Did Bass Central name her Lucy Liu or did you? Just curious since I really like Lucy Liu :D

Were they able to give you an idea of when it will be delivered?

I am sure this has been answered before several times in these threads but does the TonePump on the Euro's come set at 100% by default?

The reason I ask is I just recently changed the strings on my 2010 Euro 5LX to the Spector stainless steel from the Spector store and wasn't really too happy with the sound. The B and E strings were really rattling and just not sounding very good so I decided to check what the TonePump was set to just for the heck of it. The guy I bought the bass from said he set it to 60% and I just believed him but boy, I need to stop being lazy and check things for myself. Mine was set to 100% :eek:

I dialed it back to around 60% and have to say it sounds much better but isn't perfect. These strings are not as tight as the previous ones that are on there so I am going to pay a visit to my Luthier (Limaguy) on Friday and have him check out the neck and action. I believe Patrick mentioned that these strings were sonically matched to the basses (or something to that extent) so maybe changing back to them caused the neck to move or affected the action.

If you don't want to read this whole boring post, the morale of the story is: Just check the settings for yourself and don't be lazy :)

I named the Forte 4 Lucy Liu...I think she's DYNOMITE!!! My all time favorite action female! :D

BC hasn't given me a date of delivery yet. Maybe tomorrow...I called them like 30 minutes before closing. I talked with them this morning but after they cut me the deal I had to consult with the HFD (Household Financial Department) and we talked about it on our 6.5 hr. car ride home from Columbus, Ohio. :D

Lol!! John John John...my FORMER Ian Hill's Tone Pump was set to 100% also and I dialed it back to 40%...sounded great! Good luck with the bass surgery!

I had stainless on one of mine for about 15 minutes . Hated them ! Went back to my regulars and with the exception of dr black beauties all I use are Ernie ball regular slinkys

LOL, thanks. I don't know what the deal was with this thing (or me either) but maybe the strings were just flat out dead and installing a new set really brought the thing back to life. I am going to stop over Sam's house on Friday and he'll make any other adjustments it might need.

Are those Ernie Ball strings Nickel? I honestly have never tried nickel strings so I am not sure what they sound like and have always used stainless steel ones. The problem is, I have bought so many sets of strings over the past few months trying different ones out and it is getting expensive. I have a set of DR flatwounds that I paid like $45 for and maybe used them for a week after deciding that I hated flats on my fretless.

You know you could sell those flats in the classifieds easy!

What strings were you playing? Was the B string tapered on them because I believe it is on the Spector set.

I hate flats too.

I use nothing BUT flatwounds & stainless. GHS all the way baby!!!

I figured since the flats were cut for my fretless, it would make them really tough to sell since they might not fit all basses. I guess I could measure them though so that's not a bad idea.

That's the thing, I am not sure what strings were on my Euro before and the guy that sold the bass to me was not sure either. I wish they made them easy to identify because I would really like to know what strings were on this when I got it. All I know is the B and E strings were tapered but the rest of the strings weren't which I found odd.

The Spector strings I just put on are all tapered on the B, E, A, and D strings but the G isn't. I thought maybe it had the original Spector strings on it but these new ones are definitely not as tight either which I am definitely not as used to.

He's one of the few I trust with my basses. I had a Warwick $$ previously that I had taken to a luthier by me to have a setup done. After bringing it back 3 times for different issues with buzzing, Sam asked if he could take a look at it and see if he could fix it. 10 minutes in his hands and the thing was playing perfect! The luthier had no idea how to use the Adjust a Nut on a Warwick so they decided to raise the saddles all the way to try and get it to not buzz.

This place has been open for over 50 years too so it's not like it was just some hack place but they are a Warwick dealer so you would think they would know how to adjust them. I guess not.

So the old strings only the B and E were tapered and they were "stiffer" but on the Spector strings the B E A and D are tapered?

Do the strings have any silk wrappings on them?

Yup, only the B and E were tapered on the old set. Here is a picture of them I posted in one of the previous threads. Sorry for the bad cell phone quality but it was the best I could do at the time:
