After bringing it back 3 times for different issues with buzzing, Sam asked if he could take a look at it and see if he could fix it. 10 minutes in his hands and the thing was playing perfect! The luthier had no idea how to use the Adjust a Nut on a Warwick so they decided to raise the saddles all the way to try and get it to not buzz.

This place has been open for over 50 years too so it's not like it was just some hack place but they are a Warwick dealer so you would think they would know how to adjust them. I guess not.

Strings.gif


The strings that I've dealt with that were tapered with no silk on either end have been Fender 8250's and SIT Taper wounds.

Anyone else have a suggestion?

Definitely stainless. The reason I know definitely is Limaguy is allergic to nickel and he did play my bass for a bit when I brought it over his house and his hands didn't start breaking out or anything :)

Sorry but that is all I really have to go on :) I have to be up for work in 5 hours but this conversation has me glued to my laptop :D

Yea, I wouldn't put Fender strings on anything...even a Fender! :D

I only used them because that's what came on them stock.

Maybe anything but SS FWs. Last winter I played on my GHS's 4 practices and 2 gigs per week and they were as good as they day that I bought them. GHS SS FW have never died or let me down. I've tried others but I keep going back to GHS. They perform & last! They're smooth & feel like silk to my fingers. The sound is always consistent. You know how people talk about dead spots on the fretboard? Not with these strings!

I remember I showed that photo to SLaPiNFuNK who as you know owns BassStringsOnline.com and he said they looked like SIT Taper wounds.

Since I mentioned BassStringsOnline.com, they have great prices and quick shipping. :bassist:

I avoid anything ghs for about the past 15 years. Imo DR's are the best I have used and I stick with them. Their consistant, high quality, affordable, and last longer than anything else.

I had a wierd issue with ghs when I did use them in the past. I had a winding on the string break. Not the core, but just a single piece of winding. Happened 2 or 3 times ( boomers were the only thing available at the local store back in the day) . My rebop had boomers on it when I bought it, and it had the same thing on the E string. Anyone else ever seen this?

For a while I was only using DR strings. I finally found a string I really loved. Mostly Hi Beams but also tried Fat Beams and Lo Riders.

I ended up with a bunch of bad sets. But I will say that DR replaced them quickly.

I had a set of Fat Beams that had a weird overtone buzz on the A string.
I had a set of tappered Long Scale DR's that had really weird overtones on each string.
And I had a set of Lo Riders & Hi Beams that the B String winding busted while installing them.

I still have Lo Riders on my NS-2JAR and Hi Beams on my Euro 4LX. I am currently using D'addario Pro Steels on my others and I am liking them.

I'm glad they're working for you, but I don't play SS strings. Nickel only for me. I have heard that their "Pressure Wounds" are pretty amazing though. :)

I showed it to him tonight. He guessed SIT's as well. If it were SIT it would have to be a custom set.

I agree. DR Sunbeams are now my go to string.

Man, the string talk has me thinking...I've used Ernie Ball forever, but I might need to tread the waters on strings. I've played D'Adairio's quite a bit, ant they're ok, but I'd rather the EB's. I used Blue Steels a loooong time ago, and I might have to try a set of those, along with some DRs. What other strings have you guys used with good results?

Trust me when I say this. Stop using Ernie Ball, D'Addario, and Blue Steels.

DR Sunbeams > all else!
