The CS-TW pickups are Ceramic and also can be set to single coil mode when you pull the knob out. My Euro has them and to be honest, I never use them in single coil mode since I really am not a fan of the sound.

ya I have the blend on my NS-2A and the vol/vol on my performer... I think because I come from playing a Les Paul for the past 12 years that I prefer the vol/vol. with the blend knob I find myself soloing one of the pickups everythime I get into a jam :)

I'm plenty handy with a soldering iron (I used to do recording studio maintenance) but I have never done pickup work. Also, since I'm going from passive pickups to active I assume the power cable will be new. What is involved in this? Any suggestions or tips?

You should have no problem at all, I was barely handy with a soldering iron and I was able to change pickups and add a Pre amp with ease.

You will need to add a 9 volt battery connection and will need 25K Pots.

Have any of you Spector vets played on a Coda yet? I've heard a few soundclips on a few classified ads (unfortunately the bass had been sold already) and I thought it sounded pretty awesome.
If you have, how is it compared to a Sadowsky or Lakland (as far as playibility/tone/etc)? I'm tempted to eventually get one...might be the GAS speaking, but..

Spector quality in a J? Why the hell not?!

Anyone know what the body is like on the NS20004? I have a buddy who says he found one in decent condition cheap somewhere online, but the seller doesnt describe the body shape at all.

The Spector site says: "Once more the body was reshaped. The horns became thicker than on the NS-94/95™ models but did not take on the fully rounded profile of the original NS-Bass™. This shape would be used for our flat-body import guitars many more times."

Does that mean it is a totally flat body with rounded edges, or curved but not rounded edges like the legend series models on this diagram JPS posted? http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f8/spector-club-part-14-a-805272/index37.html#post11513114

I will say this. I've played a Sadowsky and I've played a Lakland but never a Spector Coda. Neither the Sadowsky nor the Lakland were worth their price tag to me. The Coda is a built in the USA J and it is less expensive then the US models of Sadowsky and Lakland.

It's the J I would go with.

I'm also tempted to try one out... if I were to get a J it would be a spector

They're curved and rounded, the horns are slightly different than the NS2 ( a little thinner and a tad longer maybe? ). Check Spector's site there are some pics there. I have one and really love it. Don't let the body or country of mfr fool ya. It's a top notch , high quality bass all the way. ( I will be picking up more of them ). The construction, the playability, the tone, just killer. Even with the HZ's they sound great.

I agree. I was GASing for a Sadowsky for a while (blasphemy, I know) but the I remembered the Coda. Holy Crap. This bass is amazing, and for roughly 2k?!?!?

I agree. I respect this guy for playing outside of the Fender standard that it seems all bands of this type conform to.

Do you guys think this bass is customizable at all? I mean, it is a USA. The only thing I would want to see about is maybe a maple fretboard or crown inlays. :bassist:
