Coupled with the right pre-amp it can sound great. In my former NS-95, BTC pre, I liked the sound better than my former ReBop, which probably had a Tonepump.

Ya I would think the BTC would sound better... I have mine with a tonepump and love it...... I would be interested in hearing sound samples with that combo...

FWIW I went ahead and changed my Euro LX4's stock Spector strings for GHS Stainless Steel Precision Flatwounds. After a little playing I have to say I like the sound just fine. I can hear it is not as bright in some way, but still a very fine sound. It sounds great actually, just a little different. Intonation was a snap to set up (lol, I know some hate the bridge but it's quite simple for me. Intonation screws are even better but the saddles work quite well for me).

The main difference I like is the soft feel of the flats. I got the 45-95 and the tension is very light. They play significantly lighter than the roundwounds that came on my bass. And since I have been practicing a lot lately they dont make my fingers as sore. I like the slick feel of flats. If anyone is interested I play with my fretboard as flat as I can and raise the saddles just enough to keep the strings from buzzing Unless I want them to. Just got to say this Euro is a sweetheart to set up.

Like everything, changing straings is a tradeoff I guess. The sound is a bit different but not bad at all. It still has a great growl which was what I was worried about! I have not changed anything on my EQ and with a bit of tweaking I think I am right back where I was but right now I am liking this sound!

Thanks to the ones that answered my questions about using flats on the Euro. I think they are just fine. :p :hyper: :bassist:

I think I just threw up in my mouth a bit.........don't be letting this happen again...... That poor bass....

I have heard some of those substances can give you flash backs many years later. We'll chalk this up to one of those...... See what can happen when you only try it once..... Lol.

Yes, Euro 5LX. That should be a job that any tech should be able to do, right? I plan on taking my bass in for a good setup once my strings come in, and don't think I would be able to wire the preamp by myself anyway. I'm not even 100% if I'm wanting to switch to another pre, but I'm considering it.

You are welcome! Very glad that you're enjoying them! I have people tell me all the time how warm and full that my bass sounds and wish theirs sounded like that.
Partly due to GHS strings IMO and the rest to SPECTOR and Ampeg. And the GHS Precision SS FW hold intonation really great and they last a very very long time. Isn't that silky smoooooth feeling to the fingers great!?!? I love it and that's what I want in any other string too!

If you are taking it to a tech, they should know what to do. I know ChrisLoe had one installed in his Doug Wimbish Euro and he mentioned the tech that did his didn't seem to have an issue. It's just something to be aware of in case people try and install them on their own.

If you do install it in your Euro 5, let us know the results. I have a Euro 5 so I am curious how it would sound :)

Damn GAS!!!!

I am kind of realizing my life isn't complete without a black n gold Spector. Gonna be on the prowl for a black NS2A or NS4CR in a few weeks. If any one is thinking about selling one LET ME KNOW (NS2A prefered). I would rather one of you here gets my money, hopefully to purchase another Spector as well. :)

Oh man, I'm in the same boat. I must have a black NS-2A! I've decided it's the best bass for metal :ninja:

I'd also appreciate being kept in the picture if anyone's selling one. grendle and I will have to fight between us haha!!!!
