A lot more even IMHO, the ssd voiced with a little more mids... I was having issues with my low E sounding full. Th HZ have a very even sound over all of the strings. Its a very clean sounding pup.

I use them with a tonepump pre.... but I usually run everything flat on the bass...

I like them soo much I had considered putting HZ p/j pups in my NS-2A, but went with active pups, just to compare.

Its a Jazz bass there isn't too much room to change it. I agree I think thy were going for the "vintage" style with the headstock and I actually like it. I'm not a jazz bass guy, but if I needed on it would be a spector... but probably a NS-2J (or whatever the model is )

I guess you can only do so much with Std J Bass design.

I dont like the logo on the headstock.

I would rather see the double S logo on it.

My dream: NS-2 Pearl White with a very very light colored maple fretboard. Silver hardware and Hipshot. The light mapleboard would be just enough color to keep it out of a western movie I think lol. But I would want to see the layout and might possibly change to black hardware. But pearl white with light colored maple fretboard is for sure.... One day....

My signature Spector:
Probably an a dark blue rebop 5, with an Aguilar obp 1 instead of the tone pump. As great as the tonepump sounds, I like having a center detent to use as a starting point when dialing in my sound.
Also, I'd have wider 5 string headstock (like the ones seen on legend models) as the narrow one doesn't entirely do it for me.
Add an ebony finger board with blue LED dot inlays and there you have it.

Well I was thinking the dull sound of my ns-2a was the Spector branded pups..... I put some fatbeams on there and.... That solved it.... I have some emg p pups I want to put in, but I also ordered a pj set of dragon fire pups. (emg knockoffs) they have mixed reviews but I thought I would try them out for those of us who are poor... Hehe

They will be here this week.

For all the performer players out there ( and potential ones). I have been using my performer exclusively for the past 3 weeks... It I such a great bass, and easily competes with some USA made basses worth twice maybe even three times the price.(especially with $100-$150 of upgrades) don't discount the performers as a "not so great bass" it is great, has a great rock tone, it's lighter, comfortable and looks great.

I got the nut from the guy at dickhead designs.. he does good work.

PJ doesn't want to call these "new versions" but instead say they're new options. So in other words a Coda is a Coda and you will be able to order one with a quilt top, with birdseye maple board and crown inlays or not.

Or mix and match. Quilt top, traditional Pau Ferro dot neck fingerboard...etc...

And the Hipshot Type A isn't going anywhere. We (meaning Darryl Anders of The Tower of Power... who loves this new Coda with options and myself) talked PJ out of the switch. The Hipshot is a great bridge and it is a better bridge than the BadAss. So he's content to not change that... or actually offer all three (traditional J-style, Badass and Hipshot) as options. You pick which one you like better.

For me, the bottom line is that it's the SPECTOR NS-Bass that gets my heart racing... it's that bass I want to own... no other is really interesting to me. Although I did make a push for the return of the SSD SD models today. We'll see. I think a few as a special edition would be cool. I like that body style.

PJ gave me a stack of old CD-ROMs full of photos and data information for older SSD and early Woodstock era models from the NS-2000 models and Q series to the NS-CR and NS-CR-FM models. Some of this stuff has never been seen by anyone but Stuart and PJ... so I have around 10 CD-ROMs to go through to pull cool stuff from to share with you all.

I filmed several performances today... Nicki Tedesco wailing and killing it on the NS-2 at the show at the Ampeg Booth on a massive stack of Ampegs. So dominated the main hall of the show for about 20 minutes. And it's killer.

Several talented visitors to the booth playing on the two most popular basses at the show... the NS-2 and the Forte-4... and hands down so many SPECTOR Artists that showed up to the booth LOVE the Forte-4. The one at the show already has an owner... but several people offered to buy it today. It has an amazing flame quilt with a really tight pattern.

Someone is getting a killer Forte. It's got a sweet neck and it's a joy to play.

I filmed two Aguilar/Dunlop artists performances. Both are beyond words for coolness. Nope... neither were playing SPECTORs... well in all fairness one was performing with a Double Bass... and he rocked that bass like nothing I've ever seen. It was amazing.. Ever see a double bass player use a Wah peddle and a bow? It'll blow your mind how talented and cool this performance is.

I ended the night by going out to dinner with PJ and some cool SPECTOR Artists. It was a great day.

That's really cool of PJ & Stuart to give options on the Coda bridge and body! I don't know if I could go back to a non-NS body...especially when my understudy who plays brand F*#+EURR, is heaping compliments to my Legend 4. And wants a SPECTOR really bad. :smug: Wait till she hears my new Forte 4!
Speaking of Forte 4...WOW! That awesome attention paid by top artist really has my motor a going!!!! Whoa!!! I hope mine and limaguy's will have the same tight killer flame top!

I've had both HZ's and SSD's...between the 2 I prefer the SSD's. But PJ's are my choice of pups! :bassist:
If you want more sustain go with a brass bridge & nut. When I put a brass nut on my legend 4 it was an amazing transformation! I'm thinking about putting a gold plated brass bridge W/intonation screws and gold tuners on "Kitty" soon. :D
