Spector Club - Part 16

Some poor guy drove by playing Bon Jovi on his car stereo and 20 guys chased after him to try and pull him out of the car but luckily the bouncers broke it up. My own battle scar was having my nose broken at a Slayer show in a pit :D My point is there was craziness way back in the day also :)

Dude, you got to see pantera live. I'm so jealous.
There are some perks to having been there 'back in the day'. :cool:

Whoa, Pantera live must've been awesome, especially at Ozzfest. Hmm..'97..was that Reinventing the Steel? Regardless, I wish I had been into Pantera earlier so I could've seen them live or at least Damage Plan. I bet Rex was awesome up there, too.

Anyways, that's nuts! That's the crazy awesome 'old school' stories I was looking for. It doesn't seem like there's much of that 'older' 'metal head camaraderie' anymore. Again, that's just my opinion.

Dude I saw Pantera in Atlanta during an ozzfest too! It was one of best shows I've been to! Crazy pits at that show!!!!! Rex has like my fav tones!!! The show was after they released reinventing the steel. So glad I got to see them. It's a shame Dime is gone! By far they were and are my fav metal band.

They were touring for The Great Southern Trendkill actually. It was odd because it was the time when Rex cut his hair so I didn't recognize him at first but once I saw him playing, I knew it was him. Not to rub it in or anything but it really was an amazing show :) To me, they were the best band of the day because of their energy and the way the crowd was so into it. What other band would people attack security guards for like that :) Yeah, I have some really crazy "old school" stories and could go on for a while but don't want to bore everyone.

Same here man. That is one thing I am so glad I was able to do is see Pantera. It really sucks that Dime is no longer with us but I can honestly say that I listen to Pantera more now than I even did back then. And I listened to them a lot back then. Like you, they have and always will be my favorite metal band. I am saving for another Spector to keep tuned at C# just so I can play the majority of the Pantera and Down songs. I just hate how they tuned a bit off for some of the songs because it is a pain to get in tune with them.

Oh man, Great Southern was SO AWESOME. Now I'm mega-jealous (made up word).
You should keep going with your stories, then, especially if they involve a bassist that plays Spector (that way it's justified :D).

I feel you on the slightly off tuning thing. Me and a friend would jam some of their stuff and the Eb tuning, etc, would make it a pain in the butt to transition between songs & stuff.
I'd have to agree with the Pantera being my favorite metal band notion as well. :bassist:

The vulgar tour was the best. #2 I would say of the sickest shows I've been to. Slayer was #1 on rein in blood ( when they actually did the blood rain). Seen Pantara when no one knew who they were and "Dime bag" was still "Diamond " lol, they opened for Prong. I grew up in CT so between there mass. And NY. There were some crazy shows.

Any one heard of "The Anthrax" ? Crazy little club in CT that was the spot!

Back in the day I was playing in Omaha. Before the show I went backstage to unload my basses, tune up, get ready to play. One of the bouncers was back there dealing a big pile of coke in our dressing room. When I opened the door, he pulled a gun on me, then realized I was in the band and put it away. I cleaned out my pants and got ready to play.

About an hour later we were playing, a group of Hell's Angel's came in the bar. One of them decided he was going to dance with this girl who was dancing with her boyfriend/husband. The boyfriend/husband objected, the guy pulled out a knife and stabbed him on the dance floor. Then 3-4 of his buddies helped him kick the guy he just stabbed. Then I look up and see the same bouncer heading for the dance floor reaching for the back of his pants. I knew what he was reaching for so I turned to the band and said "We are leaving, NOW!." We all went backstage to wait until things mellowed out a bit. The Hell's Angels stabbed another bouncer on the way out.

Happy ending: we had a professional photographer there in the sound booth taking promo pictures of us, she got high quality pictures of the whole thing and turned the pictures over to the police when they came, they picked up all of them.

That was a Thursday night, the weekend got crazy....

Wow Chris...:eek:Your band definitely plays in some hazardous bars! I guess I do live a sheltered life in comparison! What do you expect for back in the woods Northern Michigan. Ya might have Bigfoot walk thru the place or a UFO encounter (If you haven't seen the movie,"Escanaba in the Moonlight", it's a must see, and then you'll understand.):D

I was at ozzfest last year, and a pit opened up literally five feet away from me during a set by kataclysm (not a big fan, but it was a good show). The crowd was so dense my friend and I couldn't move away.
We ended up right next to the pit, and one huge dude managed to pin down another huge dude and he was really beating the **** out of him. This happened literally 2 inches from my face.

So there's my worst pit experience, even though in comparison it's not nearly as bad. Lol.

The funny thing is, that whole thing happened during a song called 'crippled and broken'. Pretty fitting if you ask me.

Lol I remember the king diamond graffiti on one side of the alley and the slayer graffiti on the other. Lol everyone else (accept maybe MOD got boo'd lol)

Another great Spector player in king diamond . Hal something... Killer with Andy and Pete.

Yeah, I bet it was awesome, except Rex wasn't playing a Spector for that CD haha. Was he back to his Spector for the tour? It would've been awesome to see Vulgar or Far Beyond Driven played live.

Wow, you're one lucky SOB to have seen Slayer during Reign in Blood. Also lucky to have gotten to see 'Diamond' Darrel haha.

Umm that was an All-Ages skate park.. Other times it has been Hard Rock Cafe.. The bars usually aren't so bad.. Just smelly and drunken cougars haha

Yeah, I got to see King Diamond at L'Amour on the "Them" tour and Hal Patino used a blue Spector if I am not mistaken. Unfortunately, he switched to "the copy" after and has been using them since.

Don't know what he used in the studio, he had Spectors (black w gold) and esp Tele style basses when I saw them then ( a lot like his new model). Charvelle / jackson basses on the cowboys tour. All spectors when we saw them on FBD and trendkill. Ns-5's and Rex's .

Nikkei sixx had a bunch of Spector birds back in the day too.

Judging by the album artwork, it looks like he was working with a EBMM Stingray 5. That could just be that one picture, though.

Man, Dimebag's solos must've been crazy to watch. Rex groovin' with Dimebag going crazy & stuff.

Yeah, I heard he did a stint with Spector. Not sure if I care too much for his playing, but it must've been a cool look while he had it.
EDIT: The last line is referring to Nikki Sixx, of course.

man I get busy at work and there is a new thread with 8 pages :)

question for you guys.. I'm talking with a guy selling a Legend 4 string... he said its a "special run" in 2008 with active pups.. He confirmed they were emg/ssd pups and it had the tonepump jr. so passive pups and active pre... right? can you guys just confirm I'm not going crazy..
