Unfortunately, when I did find pieces of the chips they had mostly crumbled to dust and weren't still in one or two pieces.
My NS2a is super weak on the output. I assume something is wrong with the electronics. I'm gonna get a new preamp soon, probably a tone pump. It is about 20db softer than my passive p bass and modulus. The tone is sweet though.
That's what I was thinking as well. I was originally thinking that I wanted to replace the pickups with EMGs, but the new EMG Ps are larger and I don't think they would fit. Maybe just the Tone Pump would be enough.
I love the feel and look of the bass, so I think I'm going to keep it and make some modifications.
That is unfortunate. I have never seen anything like that. It's hasn't been that cold that I would think that there would have been a significant, quick temperature shift that would have cause that. I never like to ship during the winter months because of the potential for finish cracking but that is just flaked off. Definitely lower compared to EMG equipped spectors.
The NS-2A has passive pickups with an active pre-amp, and especially if your Euro has a tonepump it will be rather noticeably louder than the ns-2a. EMG pickups are higher output, and the preamp in the ns-2a (aka the haz-copy) tends to be lower in output than the tonepump or us equivalent, in my experience at least.
I have a similar spector bass, at least electronics-wise and where it was made (NS-20004) and while its output is noticeably quieter than my other active bass, when I tweak the volume up it still sounds great. Some amps have alternate jacks to use with lower output instruments, both of my amps have two jacks, one has passive (normal) and active (-10db), the other simply has a normal and a +10db boost channel, so I find I get consistent results switching jacks on the amp to get my volume normalized.

ya mine is a little weak too.... I've heard its the preamp... I'm going to put a tonepump in mine
but first i might get another bass.... Sam keep an eye out for some curvy basses for me please (if you can manage to put the new bass down) .... let the links commence!!!
When my neck pickup is up 100%, and I bring up the bridge pickup, the overall volume drops down about 6db when the bridge pickup reaches 100%. Does yours do that? I thought something might be out of phase, but I checked that the best I could.
My NS2a had newer EMGhzs when I bought it. Its a tight fit but they fit.
Is there a Spector dealer in Nashville? i'm about 80min from there. I would like to drool over some euros. My NS2a is the only spector ever played.
Its always been Blue label, the Blue is less tension then the Black label.
The Blue label would be considered closer to Hi Beams and the Black label would be considered closer to LoRiders.
So my Rebop finally arrived today and I'm stoked! Unfortunately, she didn't arrive unscathed...
There are two spots right at the base of the neck on the body where the finish chipped off during shipping. I don't blame the seller, he did an excellent job packaging it for shipping. I can only guess it was the weather change coming from upstate New York to south Georgia and riding in the back of a UPS truck for a week.

It drops a bit, but I'd be hard-pressed to say it's 6db or not.
Hmmm...if the HZs fit, then the active should fit, too. Do you have any pictures of yours with the HZs?
Unfortunately, there aren't any Spector dealers in town. GC used to carry the legend line years ago, but no more. If you're ever near Nashville, I'd be happy to let you play my Rebop and Euro neck through.
I love the NS2A. The action on that bass (which is over 20 years old) is 4/64th on the G and 5/64th on the E at the 12th fret. Pretty good for a bass that's obviously never had a fret job.
I have an old Tonepump, no trimpot, that I no longer use. You are welcome to it. It has that spector growl. The ouput with active EMGs was hot but quite usable. I only swapped it out because Someone here on TB had a trimpot version that they were not using anymore. I love my Tonepump. I was happy to see that some players are starting to prefer it over the Haz. PM me your address and I will send it to you.

Nope. Nothing hit it. It's the darndest thing. Seriously, the seller wrapped the bass in bubble wrap, put it in a heavy-duty gig bag (a really nice one) wrapped the gig bag in bubble wrap, and packed it in a very sturdy box with a ton of packing peanuts and balled-up newspaper. I honestly would've "thrown it off the roof" (to coin a phrase I've read in this thread) and felt safe that it wouldn't have been damaged.
I found a couple of tiny chips in the bubble wrap surrounding the bass but it was too little to save so it obviously happened in shipping - not the sellers fault. The only thing I can figure is that because it's right at the neck pocket joint, the point of highest stress, that the temperature change (sub-freezing Buffalo, NY at night to 80 degree south Georgia during the day) probably caused the finish to crack and when I unwrapped it from the bubble wrap and held it up to inspect it, the chips just kinda fell off.
Still sounds great, though! Just finished breaking her in by playing through the entire Operation: Mindcrime album by Queensryche (Eddie Jackson gets the best tone from his SPECTORs) kind of as a tribute to Eddie Jackson.

I have the non trim version and I love it! with the passive pups I find it send a great signal... plenty of growl!
Ah, ok. That makes sense then. I will have to try those and the Dunlops to decide which I like better for my Euro 5 but considering I love the sound of the clips you recorded with the Sadowsky strings, I will most likely just buy those when I get paid next.
