Thanks! I'm really excited to get it.

It was such a split-second decision that I hadn't even realized that I had sent the money until a day later. It's such a guilty pleasure, too. Not only is it my first five string (i've played on a few, just never owned one), it's my first neck through, my first experience with a tone pump, first experience with the TW's (never even heard sound clips), and first bass over 1K. So. Anxious.

I was in the exact same boat. First everything for me too. I played the hell outta mine, then broke a string. I'm waiting for replacements to come in, and haven't played it in a few days, it's killing me!!

I'll post pics when I get home from work.

By the way, I love it so much, I'm thinking about getting another. Black Cherry from BassCentral for $1649.00 I believe.

I'm really disappointed with them. I'm boycotting the DB side of TB from now on. It's no surprise to me now that there are 6 people viewing their main DB Basses forum while there are over 180 actively viewing the Basses forum on our side.

I unfortunately learned that my very first day on TB nearly 10 years ago.
Not knowing how anything worked on the site (I was an overall internet newcomer at that point) I typed "Spector" (imagine that) into the search window and for whatever reason the first thread that popped up happened to be (unbeknownst to me there were "sides") on the DB side. When I lended comment to whatever was being discussed, Spector wise, I was told, very rudely by many regulars that are still there, how many things I was doing wrong and how I should be talking on the "slab" side of TB, etc., etc..

That being said, I've come to know, respect and even like several guys over there. I get that they don't like dealing with the "What gut strings are best for Metal" threads.
However, even though the general overall musical theory IQ is higher over there, so is the ahz-whole (did I disguise that enough? :hiding:) quotient.

I love upright. I play (dabble?) upright. But I have very little use for that side of TB. It's just a little too stuffy.

When I found out that this actual Forte 4 would be made for sale to a dealer I checked with PJ and he worked some “magic” behind the scenes and it will be coming to me soon.
Luckily I had recently just paid it up.

I did flip flop on the purchase a bit since I was told it receive a dent on the back of the body. But it took me about a minute to think there is no way I could pass this up after seeing the flame on it and I can’t wait till mid-end February.

After it is done posing for the master photographer it should be coming my way sometime next week.

So it appears we may be having 2 new Forte owners within the next week.

This, of course, applys more to the guys (like me :D) who are going for the modern, mega sustaining, piano string, tone/feel/response. If you're going for a more traditional or old school tone, not so much.

True, some players just can't deal with a 35" or longer scale, and that's understandable.

But all things being equal, if you want max sustain and modern, piano string like tone, 35" will get you closer than 34".

The longer the scale, there is a point of diminishing returns. Like being so long it's unplayable physically. 34" was just the median Leo decided on at the time. Many manufacturers have decided that even 34" is "unneeded" (there are quite a few 30"-32" basses out there). While Fodera (don't tell me they "need" 35" scale :eyebrow:) and others have even gone beyond 35" for those of us brave enough (and large handed enough ;)) to physically handle it. Anthony Jackson had Fodera build him a 34" scale contrabass a couple years ago. He quickly went back to his 36" scale contrabass because he said although the tone was still very good on the 34", it just wasn't as good as his 36" scale instruments.

Needed? Needed is relative on this issue.

Well, so is "better."

I've played too many 34" scale 5 stringers with all the features you note above to continue to believe that it's necessary to go 35". Companies like Fender, Sadowsky, EBMM and AC, among others, have no issues building a good 34" 5 string.

I used to hang out over there when i played URB in a rockabilly band and yes they do tend to be fairly uptight. Almost every question asked was answered with "get a teacher", end of thread. What's the best way to pluck, Get a teacher. What's a good bow for a beginner, Get a teacher. Should I hold my left elbow out or close to the body, Get a teacher. They are almost all jazz or classical guys over there and are a bit snotty about it. Oh well. Watcha gonna do? I got frustrated with them and went to rockabillybass.com. They are awesome. At least they were about 6 years ago.

I've owned Fender and EBMM. The EBMM's B string was good, very good on one of them. The other, not so much. The Fenders I've played weren't even close. Now I've heard some Fenders with a good B string but the ones I've had were just awful.

Having studied upright bass for many years, there is alot of looking down on bass guitar players. :rollno: I had one upright teacher who would never even touch a bass guitar and refused to own one. They also have their own battles with each other, like Classical players vs. Jazz Cats.

Te Upright's are Uptight for sure. :D

It seems to be a bit of a gamble on Fender Bs if you believe the talk here. I've had about a dozen at this point, and all of them have been great. I might just be lucky, I guess.
