yeah the blue one is a Samick...I have one just like it....dont knock it though..they aint as pretty as a Kramer contoured top NS-2A, but they got all the balls of the Kramer's...I stuck EMG's and a EMG preamp in mine....slammin!:bassist:
Actually, look close at the red one too....knobs are offset differently, and the bridge is different than a Kramer too...Im thinking that red one is a Samick too....I have never seen a Kramer NS-2A with the knobs like that. Still a beautiful bass.

Yeah, it's a Samick as well. The red color sort of camouflaged the body radius.

Does anyone know what Preamp comes in the Spector Q series basses? My Q6 Pro has a pair of EMG 45HZ, but I really have no idea what the pre is. I opened up the control cavity, but there is no label of any sort on it. Also, can't find this info on the Spector site. This model is no longer in production.

Well, lots of folks wouldnt even notice much of a difference really, but the body of the bass is sorta flat - like an NS-2B or NS-2C, and the configuration of the pots/knobs is different - look closely, and the bridge is different, it is more shiney - almost plastic looking, as are the knobs...and the electronics - specifically the preamp, and the serial number is stamped on the back of the headstock...Ray, you wanna add anything to this? Did I miss anything....I dont know what kind of wood the Samicks are made out of but the grain is a lot darker.

Nope, you just about nailed it. The two biggest telltale signs are the body radius and the control layout. The body isn't the fully contoured NS body we all know and love. The knob layout on a normal Spector forms and upright diamond. On the Samick jobs, the diamond is lying over on it's side.

Ah, I see now. I bought my original NS2A in 1988 and I do remember by seeing them in stores later and thinking how cheap they look.

So Kramer sold to Samick? Or subcontracted to them? What's the history?

i should have my first spector in the next week or so and here it is. i plan on getting to know it well but i do have some questions.

this is going to show my ignorance... it has passive EMG's but a preamp? what makes pups active or passive? what's the advantage/disadvantage to having active pups?

i think it was fretless guy who said there are some EMG's that are humbuckers, but designed to sound like a PJ setup. does anyone have any experience with them?

what about the preamp? you all talk about the haz lab... is there an aftermarket haz lab? or a schematic for it so i could make my own?

as i said, i'm going to take my time and get to know it... but i want to learn and keep my options open. and the questions stem from all the sounds i know and love from spectors coming from the 90's and every pic i've seen the players have a PJ pup setup.

thanks for your help. and i can't tell y'all how happy i am to be a part of the club. not for the number, but for the bass :hyper:
