I agree on both counts. IIRC and it's been a while since I had my NS-2, the real Hazlabs were clean sounding. If there was a way to mix a fat P-bass tone with crystal, that Hazlab with EMG's could do it! The Korean ones were a bit more muddy but sounded good IMHO. Then you dial up a bit of the J-pup and you had some nice midrange growl going. Pair it with a late 70's era SVT head and fridge and hold on for the ride!:bassist:

I must also admit defeat....according to PJ, the first run of 2a's were MIJ, just as Ray said. According to PJ, there are few of them and there is no way to tell them apart from the MIK's....and he states he tells people they are MIK just to make it easier to tell the story and avoid confusion. Semantics anyway if you ask me.

PJ is awesome! I have tasked myself with joining the SFCJ and using my limited but growing grasp of Japanese to inquire further about their MIJs.

Also I'm going to disagree with you about it being semantics, Japan neither denotes or connotes Korea in anyway - They are two very different countries... That is of course if you meant to use semantics in a connotative way. I which case this is all semantics.

And +1 to lemon oil. You'll be surprised how much difference it will make, especially with a board as dry as yours. And, IMO, you bass will be happier as well!

The semantics term was in reference to the lack of difference between the MIJ and MIK NS-2As as far as quality and sound. It had nothing to do with the countries per se.

i played my ns-2a today at practice for the first time since buying it, it's the first bass i've owned to make me understand someone buying two of the same thing - i want another one!

we recorded message in a bottle (police) and times like these (foo fighters). once they're done i'll add them to myspace and post a link. with a di and a sansamp rpm this is as versatile of a bass as can be found.
