little preamp help?

so i have the stock tonepump preamp in my rebob. i was looking for something with a little more flexibility... and someone has offered me this one.

it's a BQC. just have a few quick questions from those that might have some experience...

i'm clueless when it comes to emgs. i've heard these things have connectors on the pups (not just wires running to them). i'm guessing the preamps would have those connectors to make it easier to install... but i shouldn't have any trouble soldering the wires together. is there anything there i need to be aware of?

also, haven't had a chance to ask the seller, but it appears from the pic that both pots are attached to the pcb. did they make them that way? or is it just how the pic is? i'm thinking i need one of the pots to be free from the pcb.

also, i was thinking about setting up one of my vol. pots with a p/p switch so i could take the preamp out of the mix so i could go completely passive if i wanted (my pups are passive). is that pointless with something that is a boost/cut preamp or would there be a benefit?

1. One of them should be separate, it was just photographed funny.
2. I'm fairly sure that the pups in Rebops are active, needing a pre-amp. I don't know if you can do passive/active.

Other than that, you've got me.

Edit: I couldn't find that particular model over at the Link Removed, but it looks like the BTS and BQC Systems are the ones that would fit your bass, and have the easy connectors.

Try here for somewhat of a resource on the "ToneDump".
But yes the answer to the pcb, yes there are two (on the BQC "system"), The stacked mids (level/freq) are on the long one, the blend is on the smaller one, the treble and bass are on separate pots, that are included, that is if it's brand new.

OTOH, the BQC "control", has only one pcb.... stacked Mids (level/freq) on a long pcb and the bass/treble (stacked). You may want to use this for your passives.

The "system" was designed for active pups.


BTW, that pic looks like an older version of the bqc "control".

thanks very much for the link and the work you did. that'll help out a lot. and yes, this is a used BQC control (not system). when you say older... what do you mean by that? i know it's at least 2 years old. is that a bad thing?

i think i have everything answered now. it'll work with passives (according to the emg site) which i have in my rebop. it'll fit and soldering shouldn't be a big deal.

the only question not answered is would it make a difference to have the preamp on a switch to give me the passive option?

Ahh, who needs passive, when you gots mid control :)
Besides, why cause any extra work for yourself? I'd say use it as it is, then decide.

Thundar....If you have a Euro that was made in the last 2 or so years, I wish you luck!!
I speak from experience. Finding a set (or a single) of M4's that will fit the Spector Euro holes is near impossible in the US. I have looked everywhere for a black set and no one has that model. The way Spector drills their holes for the tuning machines, you will need a M4 that is a "J" type model, with the screw retainer on the bottom of the housing (not the side). You can try Spector directly, they may have some gold ones but they have zero in black.

Mine is an older Euro...and it has the screw on the side of the housing. Currently it has a Gotoh replacement on it that works fine and fit perfectly (previous owner did this, not me), but its chrome..and the rest are gold.

so i found another spector....legend custom 4 bubinga.... now from that you might just say wow...good one??? well....heres the kicker..for 350 bones. im just debating whether i should actually get it or be more concerned with my lack of employment currently

hate to ask a string question on this page but.....

didn't even think... you guys with the 35" scale... do i need super long d'addario's? i just bought what i always buy (previous bass was a 34") and my bass is now off at the tech and i left a set of strings for him to put on. i know he's competent... but if i need a different set i was going to phone him and tell him not to open them.
