Hahahaha.....hey is that amp a Shuttle or something else.
How do you like it?I want to switch my amp but i'm undecided on what to buy,so far i tried LM2 and i think i like it.But it would be nice to hear your opinion on that amp of yours.
Thanks.
Not to derail the Spector thread, but its a Genz-Benz GBE600. These preceded the GBE750, which preceded the Shuttle series. They are heavy by today's standards at 33 lbs., but its still really quite manageable. But, they have a heavy tone as well. They have dual preamps (tube and solid-state), with the abliity to use both simultaneously. I've played many amps with simlarly rated wattage (425 watts @ 4 ohms), but this sounds much louder than all of them. I love the lightweight of the Shuttle series, but I was never tempted by them because I would be giving up so much tonal flexability if I switched to one.
For example, at the show where that pic was taken, I had my Fender and my Spector. I used the tube channel on my P-bass with flats, and the solid state channel for the Spector. Kind of accentuating the positive of each bass. The Shuttle only has the one preamp, so I couldn't have that versatility. If I only used one sound, I would be more tempted by the Shuttles. I'm much more interested in the new ShuttleMAX 6.0 & 12.0 as they have the dual pres, which you can mix together, and seperate EQs for each channel, plus they are lightweight and also have more power than my GBE600.
Markbass is cool, I've played their stuff and it sounds very different from Genz' stuff, but very good in it's own way. I wouldn't be upset to own any Markbass equipment if I weren't such a Genz fan. But Genz as a company will always have my loyalty. I have witnessed examples of customer service with them that I frankly would never believe had I not seen them myself. They are above and beyond anyone when it comes to customer service in a mass production, non-boutique amp environment. Plus, they have tone for days. My amp falls somewhere between GK and Eden tonewise IMO, less mud and more clarity than Eden, but much warmer than a GK. They are modern sounding, but they are versatile enough to get old school-ish if you want that too. I know that no amp is right for everyone, but I would recommend Genz to anyone who asked without hesitation.
