Spector Club (Part 2)

... IMO... the P/J setup... is the definition of the Spector tone....

I FYP so it would make sense to me, because my definition of Spector tone comes from my NS-5H2.

Nothing against P/J Spectors- Hearing Would? for the first time was when I became a Spector lover, I just didn't know it then- The tone I currently lust for comes from EMG-TWs and an OBP-3 in wood crafted by Spector U.S.A.

...More Spector than Spector! :p

As for the reverse P, I would trust Stuart knows what he's doing.

Thanks, I guess, but I stand by what I said. I understand where you are coming from. My ideal Spector tone comes from my Rebop with an EMG 40DC in the bridge, EMG 40CS in the neck, and an EMG BQS preamp. But when someone asks me "What do Spectors typically sound like?", I reply with a link to "Would?", "I Don't Believe in Love" (Queensryche), anything by Doug Wimbish, maybe some Skid Row, etc., etc. That is the "default" Spector tone I think of when I think of Spector basses. Its not the only Spector tone, of course, but its the most popular by far. That is all I was saying.

Also, I know those guys all have their own sound but they all have similarities resulting from the bass they play. YMMV.

a few things...
Why do Spector have a reverse P pickup on the J/P basses? Wouldn´t it be better if it had a normal P?
because they do. better? i don't think so. i actually wonder why more people don't "reverse" them. my guess would be it would give a fuller D&G and a crisper E&A.

I´m just seeing this and this holds me back on a deal unfortunately.
really? spectors have been like that for how many years? and you're looking for a spector for a spector sound. so if you want the spector sound, and they have had their pups like this for decades, why are you unsure of buying one setup to give the sound you're looking for?

Do I have to special order a Spector just to have the neck pickup real close or closer to the neck?
i guess you could do that.

It would even be better with just JJ configuration instead of this. But I haven´t seen a JJ either so.
they're out there.

It would even be better with just JJ configuration instead of this. But I haven´t seen a JJ either so. Maybe special order one is the way to go. And put a swamp ash body in their also. What would that cost...5G´s?
if you look around you can find a US made bolt-on spector that is an ash body, a J neck pup and a 40TW in the bridge. the 40TW is a switchable pup that is a 40CS (humbucker) and a 40J (J pup) in one soapbar housing. you can find them for $900.00 plus depending on the day, the seller and the market.

hope that helps.

I liked the P/J combo on my Euro but the soapbars always seemed more versatile. That being said my new bass with the 2 MM-TW pups is the sound of God!
Double Agent- The 4-35 LX I used to have had the P/J pups. You can get any of the 4 string Euros with P/J or soapbar pups.

Here's my Rebop in action last Saturday night

you shouldn't be allowed to post anymore until you get sound clips up of your 2xMMTW spector. until then NO THREAD FOR YOU! *spoke in the soup nazi tone*

for real though, i would love to hear that thing.

Its funny..how different we all are in our favorite Spector "tones". I was thinking back about all the Spectors I have owned and played, and my all time favorite is still my Red Kramer NS-2A with EMG's...but no preamp in it...its just VOL/VOL/TONE/TONE, and I still love both my Kramer NS-2C's that are passive and bolt-on...who'd-a-thunk-it

Just got my brand spanking new Black Cherry Euro 5LX neck thru delivered from Bass Central. Got a great deal on it with a hard shell case. I love my Green 4 string Euro so I will see if the 5 can carve some playing time away from it. I am curious because my 4 string Euro is an older model before they started putting maple on top, I am not sure how much of difference in sound it will make.
Have a gig Friday night and will defintiley bust it out for a song or two. Pics to come.

Sorry Dean!:) Can I have some more thread now?
Thundar- Yeah everyone here seems to have their preferred "sound". The good thing is its all Spector sound:bassist:

You can hang around and post more pics of the sweet, sweet bass. However, without clips, we will have no choice but to assume that it sounds like someone dropped a crying baby on a cat... Maybe a tiger- You know, to give it Spector growl! :hiding:

Sorry Dean!:) Can I have some more thread now?

i guess... if you have to. :scowl: *goes off kicking the dirt*

but i agree with the good captain... your bass might look nice but until you post pics it doesn't sound good. i got a new rule... we've had "no pics, no bass". for you my friend... "no clips, no sound". :D

in all seriousness, i am very curious to hear how it sounds. it threw me off at first. those pups take up a lot of real-estate. they look like the TW models. how do they J coils sound? can you get a convincing dual J sound out of it?

about recording... do pc's not come with some sort of simple recording program like mac's?
