Sounded god-awful in the store, but I got it home on my own rig and it's like night and day - just as good as the EMG. Massive sound with some nice edge to it and the same large tonal variety between the pups that I've found in my other 2 Spectors. Gave her a quick bath and took a few cruddy pics again :)Boomshakalaka.

Non-LX means you have the first generation TonePump... and sad to say this one does not have the trim pot. But I'm glad you're much happier with the sound.

And man is that flame, natural finish beautiful.

Really... what's not to love? You've got some really nice Spectors there in your collection. And that photo of the NS-5H2-EX Spalt just doesn't do it justice does it?

The NS-5H2-EX Spalt I'm currently shooting is drop dead beautiful in person. So natural and organic looking.

Rock on. Them's some nice Spectors fur sur!

Good to know about the pre. I was mainly going ot trim it back based on your recommendation, but I'm not displeased with it as it stands.

None of my pictures do them any justice... unfortunate really. I have indeed stumbled across some gorgeous looking and sounding instruments and hopefully will get to hang onto them for a good while :)

My post a few pages back was missed within a furry of other posts, so im gonna re post it now so you can all see my post and hopefully answer the questions from my post.

(I realized while writing that that I was using the word "post" a lot so I just threw it as much as possible. Oh what studying for hours will do to your sense of entertainment)



1) What are the body wings of the NS 2000/5 model made of? Im quite sure mine is a Woodstock era model as the serial number is on the back of the headstock.

Im assuming an NS 2000/4 Woodstock era would be the same as the 5.

What about the NS 2000s from the SSD era? Same build?

2) What electronics are in it? I opened my NS 2000/5 and found a standard "tone" pot and the other had a small PCB with a double dip switcher attached. What exactly am I dealing with here?


3) Bone or brass for the nut for my Legend Classic 4?



My goodness im GASing hard for a USA model. But I have no where to try them out and hear the difference from my Euro.

4) Is/would there be a big difference between the walnut back of the USA EX model to the (mostly) alder back of the Euro? (Im speaking sonically) Does the difference come more from the body build or the electronics and pickups?

Man, they are all so beautiful. Wish I could have all of them for myself.:D

I gotta say the bolt ons sound really great IMO.. bolt on 4 and the 5 with the neckthru BEM board basses really stood out when I was playing them.. I dont know what it is..

I know my next Spector is going to be a USA! I'll just have too see what my playing situation is at the moment to decide...

FWIW, I took out an early TonePump from one of my Spectors and replaced it with an early style (NOS) Aguilar OBP-1.

The TonePump was actually about 10-15% quieter than the OBP-1 in the same bass with EMG-TW's, and comparitively about the same to my other OBP-1 equiped Spector with EMG PJ's. Treble and Bass pots set to about 40% with all basses with either pre.

Maybe the old, non-trimpot TonePump has about the same output as the new ones set at about 50-60%.

Which is a EuroLX thing. But it has solid wings. So it could be that someone special ordered a solid wing Zebrawood model (because it is an EX model this might have been an option).

Wow. That's one nice looking Euro5 for under $1,000.00 Someone should grab that up. And it has the detuner which is definately a special order option.

He and I discussed this bass a couple of months ago when he first tried (at $1400) to sell it. I remember the NBxxxx serial being low enough that it is definately a Euro5, not an (special order) LX. Since the D-Tuner doesn't match exactly (GB7 vs. Schaller???) I'm guessing aftermarket.

If I had an extra grand laying around (that I could hide from the Wife) this puppy would be here already. :(

I love the Tone Pump. I ran my rig with 'flat' settings - because initially, I was going DI - even pre eq - but I ended up yanking out the DI and just relying on the rig. Didn't have enough juice for the PA to run the low frequencies. Weird.

So, on my Rebop
Bass boost - 1/3
Treble boost 1/4

Hard to tell with this video (audio is not TOO bad) - but I love the sound (and I look like a dork).

New Spector owner here! Just got this NS5CRFM in from another TBer today, this is the first spector Ive ever laid my hands own so this was a blind faith purchase, glad I took the plunge! The most ergonomic thing Ive ever played! The bridge on this thing is massive! Quick question I noticed that the bridge has 3 anchor bolts that hold it in place, I know of other brands set up like this that have problems with the bridge screws stripping out from the tension of the strings, any reported probs with this on spectors?

Nope. Since Euro Spectors have the same USA (NY) grown Rock Maple that the USA Spectors have, the wood is hard enough to resist any such issues. I've NEVER heard of a bridge stripping out of a Spector.

That bridge is rock solid. And massive? The USA bridges are Solid Brass... and about 20% larger than the Euro Bridges.

I love the heavy Spector bridge. Set one up correctly, lock it down (there's a lock screw on the side bottom of the bridge) and they rarely go out of tune.

i am totally gutted spector euro came back and told me that they have no stock on the rebob ex clear finish zebrawood and have only black stained :((((((((

so i might take a plunge on getting the euro xl-tw spalted maple with matte finish instead. and i read the the rebob got the most sexiest curve with almost no flat surface. is it the same for the euro xl. if its all work out this will be my 1st neck thru basses in 20yrs of playing.

this thread help me tons in my decision and the spalted maple pic at the top sorta make me gas for 1.

I hear you on the Zebrano. I just don't like the new black stain as much as the natural finish.

The Euro LX has the same body as the rebop, no flat surfaces at all.

I don't think you will regret going with the LX. I have never heard one with the TW pickups in person so I can't comment on the tone. Spector puts them in their US basses so they must sound good.....

I love the sound of the 4's with the P/J pickups though, Thick, huge and angry.

I was looking at that one the other day. Those older NSCRFM's have the solid maple wings right?

Looks like it has a CSTW for the bridge pickup, should get a nice burpy bridge tone.

As far as the three screws in the bridge, I wouldn't lose any sleep. Even their six string basses only use three screws! Spectors are awesomely well built. If it was and issue it would have been changed years ago.
