Phat is correct. The USA Bolt-On Models are NOT the same shape/curve profile as the USA Neck-Thru Models.

I'm taking detailed photos and plan on doing a diagram showing the differences. The USA Bolts are more like the Legends. Or I should say the Legends are now more like the USA Bolts.

The only Spector Bolt-On neck models with the original NS-Curved/Carved Body design is the Euro ReBop line. They are the same as the USA and Euro Neck-Thru Models.

The ONLY differences between the USA and the Euro Neck Thru Models are in three areas.

The shape/profile of the fingerboard as it connects with the neck and the body. The Euro is more squared whereas the USA is rounded.

The back of the neck where the neck meets the body. This transition area is more subtle, more gradual with the USA whereas the Euro models have more of a noticable ledge from the body to the neck, if that makes sense.

And at the headstock. The Euro's neck at the first fret is actually thick because there is a gradual "hump" that rises up from the neck and then back down to the headtock.

The USA models have a sharp "lip" that rises up just under the nut and then recedes down to the headstock. Almost like a wave that is breaking on the shore.

That's about it. The rest is so close you can't easily tell the difference.

Man! do I love those birdseye maple fingerboards with the abalone inlays. Absolutely beautiful.

My favorite Spector wood finish is the Water Cured Redwood. But alas, I have the last one of those that will ever be made since Stuart has run out of wood with that log.

So now my favorite (meaning something I could/will order in the future for myself) is the Black Cherry Gloss on the USA AAAA Quilt Maple Wings.

That being said, I think the Black Cherry NS-2 is a beautiful bass and a perfect example as to why I love this finish.

But with the BEM fingerboards... that Peacock Blue is unbelievable. It's a color I'd never order for myself until seeing it in person on this bass. With the BEM fingerboard and the blue Abalone inlays... it's the prettiest bass I've ever seen.

I'm not a fan of maple necks. No critisism of what Stuart has created with these basses. I just don't like Maple fingerboards on ANY guitar. So I'll be sticking with the Pau Ferro... I'd consider an Ebony fingerboard before Maple. But they are incredible basses. Everything you'd expect from a USA Spector.

One more quick question for you guys, my bass came with a EMG TW in the bridge position instead of the DC, I know this can be subjective, but is this an improvement, or should I revert it back to the DC at the bridge?

Now that I've played both DC powered Spectors and the TW powered models. I really don't mind the TW's at all. With the single/dual coil mode you get a lot of tonal range.

I've got TW's in my new Euro4LX-TW-35 (BEAD) and I'm perfectly happy with them.

It's a matter of what tone/sound do you want/need from the instrument.

That's awesome, cools stuff JP :D!!! I believe Spector has the most exciting guitars going! Picked up an ARC 6 PRO this weekend! I compared my Spector hard case i bought in March 2010 with the new case i received today and I noticed on this new hard case I received today they are using double stitching on the end trim pieces. Now that's improved quality! :D

I think Leo got it right in the first place, but he never intended for the split coil P to be paired with a J in bridge position. The only reason IMO to reverse the P position is when you add the bridge pickup. For a straight P bass? Nah, it's perfect as is - IMO.
Actually, I agree with the general point you made (regardless of the J) in that the P reversed creates a little bit more beef with the D and G and makes the E and A (expand all this to low B and high C as fit) a little more articulate.

I would want my upper octave G to have as close to the same weight/heft possible as to my low G. I would also like my low G as distinct as possible in relation to my upper G. Positioning the P in reverse brings me much closer to achieving this. The traditional mount moves unneccessarily away from this ideal, making the bass strings muddier and the high strings thinner. I've owned many basses with the traditional P, and this was always an audible issue for me. The reverse P was the solution.

I just feel, for the general reasons you stated in the review (and others in other reviews), that the reverse configuration is the most sensible if you are going to have a staggered coil pickup.

"The reverse P pickup soloed has the defining bark of a classic Precision tone, but with it's own flavor. The G and D strings definitely benefit from the extra girth, and the E and A speak a little faster and clearer than on a traditional Precision."
Exactly. :)

BTW, do you get an email notification everytime your name pops up in a thread? ;):D

The rev P and J, for me, is THE only pickup configuration that satisfies me completely...which is why Im changing out the EMG DC's in my Euro 5 for a 40p and 40J. To me, that is the definitive Spector sound...I dont MIND the DC's, but I'd much rather have the P/J...and that was the biggest problem I had with my NS2JAR....I just couldnt get on with that J/J sound...or any jazz bass...I own some, but they just dont make me smile like a P/J config does.

Im kind of curious if how this works out. Keep us posted!

Does yours have a plastic/non-brass nut? I saw one today with a plastic/non-brass nut and the one on the website looks like that as well. Also, how do you dig the BEAD? I think I'd like to get a 4, but playing fives primarily has attached me to that B :)

Yes, it has a black graphite nut. And the TW models, 35" or 34" are standard with all black hardware, bridge, tuners, nut, with a matte finish.

I'm digging the BEAD so far. It's a nice solution to avoiding getting a 5-string.

How what turns out? The swap from DC's to the 40P/40J....I can already tell you how it turns out...it kicks ass...I have had this combo before in a Rebop 5 that I sold...and regret selling ;)

Hmmm. I have 40DC's and a BQC coming for my Rebop. Now I am second guessing if I should have gone with the 40P and 40J.

Oh well, many of people seem to like the DC's and the BQC should be able to give me lot's of tonal variety.

At any rate it ought to be a big improvement over the HZ's and tone pump.

Yes, it will be an improvement...there is certainly nothing wrong with the DC's..and the BQC is a great pre

This is something I've not checked into and have been thinking about for my Spector 6 (it has TW's which I don't particularly like the dual coil tone of and the single coil is unusable due to the volume drop).

One thing though: Are the coils inside of the EMG 35/40/45 P's arranged in traditional P or reverse P configurations?
I need to check into this.

The coils in the 35/40/45 P's are reversed.
