@ JP... I really love what you guys did with the historic Spector site, it's dynomite! Have you thought about having a search feature added into it to where you can type in the model of Spector you're looking for and it'd bring you to that Bass model? That'd really be helpful I think. Just a thought... :D Thank you for the fantastic job that you do for all of us Spector fans!

Yes, this is a legit Spector. The answer has already been given to you.

I have an NS-2JA-R... and just a note... there are one or two NS-2JA models from the early 1980's that have crown inlays... but the vast majority, the orginal 1980's models, the USA Reissues from the late 1990's and early 2000's (like the one in question) and the Europe Series™ reissues from the past 3 years (which are no longer in production so get em' while you can) all have very small pearl dot necks. I had some of those crown inlay stickers on mine for a while but I took them off. If you run across any NS-2JAs from the 1980's or 1990's with crown inlays... they are more likely to be fakes. Just FYI. Until Kramer and late 1985, the majority of NS-2 models made in the USA didn't have crown inlays. And none of the NS-1 models do. By 1984 the mix was about half and half. Half had the inlays, the other half were pearl dot necks.

This looks to be a great bass. I hope someone gets it and appreciates it. The NS-2JA is an awesome instrument... but then again... isn't every SPECTOR® (sorry, been in marketing mode this week, LOL).

Correct. The USA NS-2JA models have dual EMG active "J" pups and the USA 9v Tone Circuit (referred to as the HazLab for the company that makes them for us) and they have more mids than the P/J NS-2 models. I personally love the way they sound.

Graham Maby is playing the same config (9v USA Tone Circuit and dual "J" pups) in his USA NS-5XL. That sound is wicked-cool.

Phat already stated this... but the Legend Custom has a set-neck, which is bonded to the body. Not the same thing. But the EQ is a nice feature. And Set-Neck bodies do have more sustain than bolt-ons... but not as much as true neck-through models.

The Legends overall are greatly under-appreciated in my opinion. These are really, really, nice instruments.

You are most welcome. And sincerely, thank you. I've said it before, everyone who participates on this board has influenced how I built the Spector site. I was a TB member and a Spector fan before I became part of the company.

It's a dream-job for sure.

We've talked about a search feature for both models and artists. We have over 450 artists listed on the site as well.

These sorts of things are being discussed, so hang in there and thanks again for your feedback. That goes for everyone. We really all do appreciate it. I know PJ and Stuart feel the same... we've discussed it before.

The TB Spector forum is a valuable resource in getting excellent feedback from the people that matter most to us as a company, our loyal customers. :-)

You can order USA NS-5XL models with EMG P/Js. As a matter of fact you can order a USA NS-5XL with just a "P" pup if you want. Or with two "J"s Stuart has done these before so it can be done, just requires a special order. Which honestly all USA-Made Spectors are "Special Order" or "Custom Shop" if you want to look at it that way.

Mike Kroeger of Nickleback has a couple of 5-String NS-5XL P/J models and he also has a 5-String single P.

All the basses above belong to Mike Kroeger. And note that the models with P/J's are actually NS-5 Bolt-on models. So you can order the NS-5H2... with P/J's... so it wouldn't be an "H2" any more... Not sure what Stuart likes to call these. I'll ask.

You'd just have to make sure you talk with your dealer before the order is put in to ensure Stuart knows you want it made this way.

The bass in question:
If the serial has an "NB" in front of the 4 digits, it has to be a Euro5 (or Euro 5 LX. I can't tell for sure from your pix). Only 4 digits it's a NS5CRFM from between '99 & '01 since it's 35" scale with inlays. If the Tone Pump is original it's a Euro or Euro LX from '02 or later.

Back in about 1985 I joined a band where the bassist I was replacing was already singing this song. This was my first real intro to Joe Jackson (I also promptly went out and got "Look Sharp" and "I'm The Man") and I loved this song. Needless to say I took it over (singing it also). To this day it is still my fave Joe Jackson song. Maby is super creative.

Well the first thing is that the pre amp (U-Retro with an added Mid control) is SUPER LOUD. It has trim pots inside that are set to 3/4 at the moment (I havent dialed in the right volume yet, im kinda lazy) and I cant put the volume on the bass up more than about 2/3 of the way without overloading the amp on the way in.
Its mega hot.

The next thing is its versatility. I have a 4 band EQ in my bass spread on 4 stacked pots. Theres a bass boost knob at 50Hz, treble boost at 3kHz and cut at 1kHz (on the same knob, its indented in the middle to let you know when youre boosting or cutting).
Then theres two pots that have mid sweeps on the bottom, one ranging from 125Hz-1kHz and the other 250Hz-1kHz, the tops are boost and cut (with a center indent to let you know when youre boosting or cutting). The one that ranged from 125Hz-1kHz has dip switches inside to let you pick the frequency range.
The last stacked knob is the volume and pickup selector that allows me to blend in or blend out whichever pickup. Theres a middle indent to let you know when youre even on both.

I may have the exact frequencies wrong, but thats the jist of my setup. It's takes a little longer to dial in a tone what with all the knobs and choices, but I prefer having a much greater variety of tones available to me. For me, it bring my Euro 5LX to the next level and really lets me dial in the exact frequencies that make that bass speak the clearest, punchiest... whatever it is im going for.

The pre amp itself definitely adds a lot more punch to an already punchy bass.

Wow! Those are some awesome Spectors Mike K has! And my fav the water cured walnut 5r. That's cool to see a 5 r with either PJ or JJ configuration.
FYI...today I received my 1st NS-2A 80s bass! I took it to band practice tonite...WOW!!! I'm now a believer in the neck-thru and I love the PJ pickups!!! I can't believe how long a tone will carry! And how full and warm the tones are. Playing It is like an extension of my arm...the neck is sooo smooth! Like butter! I'm sorry to say but my Rebop 5 will be taking a back seat for a while...a long while. Can't wait to order some SS FW strings for her and hear how it sounds.

I've bought 3 Spector Bass' and an ARC-6 PRO in a years time. Each one that I buy keeps getting better and better!
Now I'm thinking how to get $$$ to buy my next Spector...a fretless! I'll have time to figure out which model.
