So, i swapped the HZs with a DC and a TW on my Rebop.
Wow..
WOW!!
I was very happy with the sound of my rebop even before this, but now, i'm in love with it all over again!!!
It was really worth it!
Can't wait to gig it on saturday :D

Oh yeah! That's what I have too. Did you have a tutorial to follow? If so where? I've been thinking lately about doing the same to my Rebop 5. Maybe the legend 4? Everybody says active/active is the sound!
Please let me know if you have any tutorials. Thanks!

No i don't have pics cos i took it to a pro i know to do it for me. All i know is that you'll need new volume pots (25k) as opposed to the old ones (100k?). But yes do it, I thought it wasn't necessary for a great tone, but now I see that it is!

NP. I found on www.bestbassgear.com that I can buy the PUs and preamps and they have the diagrams with instructions.
How much did the pro charge to do it?

Changing pickups is a really easy job to do yourself. Especially with EMGs, they have quick connect so just plug them into the right cable.

They come with all the diagrams you need too. The only thing you'll have to be careful of is the pots if youre going from passive to active or vice versa.

Id read up on it if I were you and think about doing it yourself. If you can solder and follow the instructions you should have no problems. Itll save you money, plus give you some hands on experience and knowledge of how your instrument works. Double thumbs up if you ask me.

Ps, I switched the pre-amp in my Euro 5LX from the tone pump to an East pre. Took me all of an hour to do. Was quite fun actually.

Any further info on this bass? The owner says it's a US bolt on ns-2j with aguilar electronics and of course emg pickups. What should be the price on this one?

PJ Rubal just told me this about a similar bass I saw on GC's site:

"That looks like USA NS-2J to me. when we started those
models again in the late 1990s they had that Hipshot bridge
and dot markers. get a pic of the back of the headstock, should
be hand signed and numbered with the proper bass info. then
we will know for sure!"

GC has one for $1149

If you are swapping the pickups and leaving the tonepump you will first need to swap the volume pots from 500k to 25k. Nice thing is that when you get the pickups they come with 25k pots so there you go. You should also remove the bridge ground. The quick connects for the HZ's are not compatible with active EMG's so the wires will need to be swapped. You need to make sure to Solder the braided housing's on the pickup wires to the body of the pots but the supplied instructions will cover this. Oh, and you will have to splice in power for the pickups. Soldering that braided housing is the only funny thing with active EMG's. Other than that it's not that tricky.

For sure I'll do it myself.:hyper: I love electronics...in fact I took electronics in high school then pursued it further in my adult education after high school. Yeah I checked out Spectors diagrams that they have and it looks really simple.
How do you like the East pre now that you've had it awhile?

Thank you very much. Any comment on the sound of those basses? Classic spector sound or does it have a different vibe?

I have an older Spector with a J/J setup and it's pretty close to the classic Spector sound. Maybe a little more grindy because it doesn't have the P pickup. I still love it though. But that bass also has a Hazlab pre....hope that helps
