Yeah... this is an easy thing to have happen...

Iceboxbass... you bought a NEW NS-2JA-R. A Czech made reissue of the 1983 NS-2JA model. A bolt-on neck, dual active EMG "J" pickups, an EMG 9v tone circuit and a Leo Quan bridge. The NS-2JA-R run is now over... once all the new models in stock at our dealers locations are gone, that's it. No more will be made. This run was limited to 83 in one of three colors.

Dcstickist bought a 20+ year old (they were discontinuted in 1990) Korean-Made NS-2A model. Also known as a Kramer Model for Kramer guitars owned the Spector Trademark, name, etc... at the time.

The NS-2A is an exact copy of the USA NS-2 of the same period, with all black hardware... a slightly smaller bridge, passive EMG P/J pups (which were branded with the SPECTOR name in gold on them) and a Korean-made version of the famous USA 9v Tone Circuit (sometimes called a HazLab, from the name of the contractor who makes them for us). They do not have crown neck inlays... although at the very end of Kramer's life (right before they filed bankruptcy and closed the doors), some NS-2A models were finished with crown inlays and some USA NS-2 models were finished with all black hardware... go figure. The maple body was a lower quality wood, so most were finished in solid gloss colors, black and white being the most common. Many were finished in a simple sunburst or cherryburst finish. They did feature Schaller tuners and are generally recognized as solid, really nice yet affordable NS-Bodied Spectors. 7000 were made during their 4 year production run.

So no worries. You didn't get ripped off. We are talking about two totally different guitars... some 20 years apart from one another.

JP...I think you got our names turned around....I bought the NS-2A today....DCsticklist bought the other. Anyways...check it out on GC sku#106058118 sunburst. And I can't wait to play her! Up north where I live guitar stores are far and few let alone find a Spector in one to try out.

I put Spector steel strings on my Euros... Spector Nickel on my USA, and because my NS-2A is a fretless, I use D'Addario Chrome Flats on it... which sound awesome on a fretless. I wish Spector made flats... I'd use them if we did.

Yeah JP...I love flats also on my Legend 4 & Rebop 5. I ordered some SS from Spector once thinking that I was getting Flats :(. Sent them back. I've tried D'Addario chrome Flats on both Bass but didn't care for the tone. Gave them away. It seems that GHS Precision SS Flats have been what I'd been looking for in sound & playability. Love that silky smooth feel mmmm...not that I'm planning on putting GHS on my NS-2A when I receive it. I'm open to what has been working and proven from the experienced Bassist here.

That's they way I feel about my Rebop 5 DLX too.

I tried Ernie Ball Slinkys on my NS-2A - yuck. They made the bass sound dead.

BlueSteels sounded amazing on them. For my Rebop, I use Elixirs. Great sound from these strings. If, and when, I get a Rebop 5 DLX-FM or Euro 5LX, I'll string them with my Spector strings. They're nickels - and they're just sitting here waiting for a 5er.

So tough to find a Rebop 5 DLX-FM in a decent color, at a decent price, LOL.

I missed out on an auction on eBay - it was for a nice NS-4CR (SSD era). :(

Yeah I remembered that bass...thought about it myself...but I was looking for a red one. Then when a red NS-2A went too high I went back to take a 2nd look at this one and poof! It was gone! Lol that's the way it goes huh! Thanks for the advice on strings!
