4 agree... the only reason I dumped my Haz copy from my NS-2A was that it was damaged and didn't work correctly.

When dropping in active EMGs remember that the Haz copy (it's Korean-made and should say "Kramer" on the side that faces down in the control cavity) is designed for passive pups. There is no place on that board for you to connect your power leads to your pups. And the board doesn't push enough power through to power them. You have to bi-pass the board for power and wire the pups into the battery leads. I've seen this done from the power lead off the 1/4 input jack as well.

It will sound closer to a USA NS-2 than you would believe. I'd try not to dump that tone circuit if you can.

I had to replace mine. And I did so with a new TonePump.

Then that closes the don't replace HazLab pre subject. I definitely will keep it installed. Thanks guys for your wise advise! Word of where I can buy some active EMG PUs for a low price? :D

If you're not sure, simply re-attach the braids and center wires (white usually) to the pre the way the passive pickups were.
The EMG site has wiring diagrams for their pickups that will show you how to wire up the red wires to the battery.

you can find great prices for pickups on ebay, I get most of my parts from ebay these days, its just a matter of finding a good price coupled with a good seller (i.e. 100% positive feedback) which might not be so quick, for quick i would suggest bestbassgear as bobunit suggested.

I may have mentioned this earlier - but anyway, in the process of cleaning my NS-2A (which I got back today, yes!) - I took out the PUPs, the bridge, opened the back and used some canned air to get rid of some dust and sawdust from the old screws -

So, I'm looking at the hazlab copy - and trying to figure out where, and if, it might say 'kramer' - when I noticed that the PUPs were wired backwards. I thought it was strange when I was checking the volume knobs - but I usually run them both full when playing, so I didn't really pay much attention.

But,yeah...so the previous owner might have had some work done - and they wired it incorrectly. If I can get a good photo, I'll post it.

If you want to compare, I have a number of pics of mine from a thread where I wasn't sure what I had, and JPS and others helped me figure out it was from an NS-2A. Its got a bit of the battery area cut off but the rest is intact.

Mine only said Spector on it, nothing about kramer or haz, but it may have been printed on that small area that was cut off.

I know a lot of guys in here have used SS Lo-Riders on their Spectors so I thought I'd check here.

I just put my first set of SS Lo-Riders on my Euro 5LX. I was under the impression they'd sound very "zingy" out of the box, but they really weren't, and after a few hours play at home the B seems pretty dead, and the others aren't too far behind. Did I get a bad set? I have another set unopened but I don't want to even bother with them if this is normal.

I had a set of nickel Lo-Riders on and even after an alcohol soak those sounded better than the SS's did new.

I'm thinking of giving the Spector strings a go. I'm assuming the strings that came on the Euro are not what Spector ships in the states - I wasn't too fond of the stock strings anyway. I've heard speculation about who makes the Spector string but I'm not sure if it's considered a "secret" or if it even matters.

I'll probably just order a set of nickels and a set of steels and see which one I like better.

I have 3 Spector bass' except for my newest bass NS2-A , I have on my other 2 GHS precision SS flat-wounds. I've tried others but the others fall short. So I keep going back to GHS. These strings have a big warm full sound. I haven't any problems with them going dead or flat. They're awesome! I will be ordering a set for my NS-2A this week.

Most definitely! The tension is tighter than nickels or chrome flats, which I'd tried D'Addarios...didn't like on either my Legend or Rebop 5 DLX. Told my wife, PLEASE, don't let me order anything else but GHS! lol IMHO anything else is a waste of my $$$. I don't play Jazz or Blues...I like playing deep, loud and hard!
Try them! I think you'll be amazed.

Cool. Only thing for me is I don't think they sell a 5-string set together so I'd probably have to get the .126 separate. I usually use a .130 but if the tension is there maybe it won't matter to me.

The reason is this isn't the first one of those I've seen with nothing on the back of the headstock. I've also seen a couple with the "Crafted in the Czech Republic....." blurb on the back of the headstock, but no serial. Usually it's stamped in the wood in the cavity.

A refinish is still possible also as, if you look closely, it appears lightly smudged where the "...Czech Republic..." blurb would be.

I've had this on my "Watch List" since it came up a couple days ago.

I've asked the seller to either post a pic or send me an email if there is a serial stamped in the cavity.

He emailed back.
Serial stamped in the wood inside (2728). Claims the "Czech Republic" blurb is on the headstock, but is not showing up well (there does look to be something smudged there).

Appears to be a '99-'01 NS4CRFM (Damn, I'm good :smug::D;)).

Yes they do sell 5 string sets. That's what I use on my Rebop 5 DLX. SET # M3050-5 .45,.65,.85,.105,.126. Long scale fits 34-35" scale basses. They make a long scale plus for up to 38".
