I'm thinking of upgrading my Rebops pickups to EMG 40DCs.

Is it worth doing?

And would I have to change the electronics or preamp to accomodate them?

I was wondering the same till I did it. (DC on the neck, TW on the bridge)

Mine sounds spectacular but I also did the pre at the same time.

You can hook em up to the tone pump but you will need to change the 500k volume pots out for the supplied 25k pots.

I personally think that the active EMGs sound better than the passive models if you are looking for that classic Spector sound.

I think the dual DC (like in my USA NS-4) sound great. As do the Dual TW (like in my Euro4LX-Tw-35).

I'm sure the other combos mentioned here, (DC/TW and DC/CS) would also sound really good too.

You can put these active pups with the TonePump. No problem. You will have to change the pots from 500K to 25K, as Hugh stated.

And if you decide to change the Tone Circuit (I think the TonePump is as "Spectorish" as you can get outside of the actual USA-Haz circuit itself), go with the Aguilar OBP-2 or 3. That's what we put in the USA bolt-ons now.

That looks KILLER and it's as noticeable as just the plain/exposed maple like Mike has on his currently. Like it was sanded off then stained about 100x to get it that solid!
Is that bass FS @ LowEnd or just in the gallery? That almost "iced tea" finish is

It's gone. It went pretty quick. I've used 0000 steel wool or 1200 paper to get a similar results.

Did you put a finish/stain of any type on it? If so, what'd ya use?

No. I never took it down to the wood. The wool/paper removes the gloss to the finish resulting in the satin. Unfortunately, over the time the finish will return to gloss (depending on usage) so you just have to repeat the process.

DGbass70 sold that very same Rebop to me. And it did, in fact, sound great. I would have preferred a 40DCx2 setup, but I was nitpicking at that point. Either way, I think it sounded much better than the stock Rebops I have played. A worthwhile upgrade, especially if you love everything else about the bass (look, weight, playability, etc.).

I more than likely will. I can't stop staring at it. Easily the classiest and most tasteful Spector I've ever seen. It's even better than it's NS2 brother they also have in stock.

I don't know. I probably wouldn't be able to decide between the two if I had the funds, they are pretty much equally jaw-dropping IMO.

Yeah that's true- the facing on the NS2 is a tad bit sweeter, but considering I'm in the market for an NS4 instead, it makes my choice that much easier...

Are there advantages to sanding the neck? Or is it just a preference? If sanded, how does it help you as a bassist?
