Did Rex Brown let something slip here?
In the latest issue of Bass Player they ask Rex what he's playing these days he says:
"I'm using Czech-made NS-2's (Uh...Euro 4 LX's?). I'm also playing a Spector RXT bass,
which looks like a Telecaster Bass. Spector will be launching those at the NAMM show."
I don't remember any meantion of this Telecaster Bass Spector anywhere. Did I miss something or have you been holding out on us, JPS?

OK... I haven't seen the article/read it yet. But I've known about this bass for some time.
Sorry... but it's not "holding out" as much as following Stuart's wishes.
But anyway... yes. Now that this article has hit I can talk about it.
I signed a non-disclosure. I know all kinds of stuff about stuff... Models, designs, what's being added, taken away... that's all I'm allowed to say guys. Sorry.
The moment that PJ and/or Stuart says it's OK to talk about it. I will.
I spoke with PJ about Rex's new bass today... actually... because we are working on our NAMM marketing materials.
It will be a new Rex Signature Model. It was designed for Rex, just as the Rex Bass was. Stuart is adamant about the name because it goes along with the RX-GT guitar (which is sort of a hybrid Rex Bass and RXT Bass). The electric RX-GT was designed as a harder-rock-inspired answer for guys like Lance who want to Rock a Spector with bassists like Rex. So these new designs have been inspired by Rex in a way. Stuart and Rex are very good friends.
Yeah, about the Euro NS-2 comment. That's Rex. He knows it looks and sounds like an NS-2 but is made in the Czech Republic. So who cares about the model name? And honestly, PJ will tell you that the Euro4LX is the Euro-Made NS-2 model... it is. Just like the Euro4LX-TW is the NS-4, the Euro5LX is the NS-5XL, etc...
This new Rex bass is very similar to the Fernades model Rex had many years ago.
There are a lot of cool new things in the pipe that I just can't talk about yet. NAMM is a big deal for us... for every guitar maker. And there are some things we're going to reveal which will be really sweet. And I'm going to be there, from open to close each day with my cameras (including a really nice HD pro video camera) catching all the happenings.
And that stuff will go onto the site as it happens... or more likely later that day.
I notified this forum first with the updates from BPL. So trust me. People here will be in the know first.
I knew about the Coda-5, Forte-5X and Birdseye Maple stuff for months. It's just part of the job...
Stuart and PJ don't like to talk about stuff until after it has been built. Because we can talk about the "X" bass... whatever it may be... but until you can hear one and hold it for yourself... it's just talk. Too many companies do that. I'm really proud that we're not one of them.

In the print ad archive there is a print ad for early (dot) Rebops from......1996.
I was of the belief that the Rebops started in 2002 (your model history page seems to confirm this). Is the print ad mislabeled?

Also, the Rebop DLX's are listed as only 2004-2006 on the model history page.

Looks like you are right again Phat (regarding the other thread), I found the Rebop model history and it looks like that 1996 poster must be a typo (or maybe the model history is off??).
Regarding the Rebop DLX's going from 2004-2006, This is correct as starting in 2007 they switched to the DLX-FM and DLX-EX thus discontinuing the boring old solid alder DLX's.
I can see how the alder ones would have been worse for neckdive with alder being on the lighter side. Mine is half Zebrano which, going off the slab of it I have in the garage, is pretty heavy. Plus I've got hipshot ultralights on it so no neckdive issues. It does prefer to sit horizontal but that makes slapping a narrow spaced fiver a bit easier I suppose... or not (lousy big thumbs

Im getting kinda frustrated.
I want to replace the nut on my Spector Legend Classic 4 with a brass nut.
Ive been searching high and low for a nut blank that is about the right size.
I havent been able to find anything.
Ive tried StewMac, AllParts, Musicians Friend and Google isnt turning up any useful links.
Anyone have an idea of where I can go?

Honestly...try any of a thousand metal fabricating places. Any halfway decent machine shop could make a nut pretty quickly.

Just beyond that, If it's brass, then Wood working tools can fashion a blank of brass and nut files used on other materials, like wood, graphite, bone, etc... can also be used to slot brass, due to the softness of the material. Polishing can be done with fine grit sandpaper.
I made a brass nut for my Q4-Pro back when I had it and I used a brass blank I got from a WoodCraft shop. I used a fine bladed hack saw (and a bench vise to hold it) to cut it down to an appropriate size.
I then made careful measurements of the previous nut and using different fine metal files I filed the blank down to the right size. After polishing it you couldn't tell the difference between it and one of the nuts of my Euro models.
It took about 3 hours total and $10 in brass blanks. BTW... I did two because I stuffed the first one up. I made the "E" string slot too deep.
You do realize that the only notes that a brass nut affects are open notes... other than that... once your fingers are between the string/fret/bridge... the nut isn't part of the equation anymore.
For me on Spectors is more about the look of the brass nut. It's part of the traditional Spector look. That's all.

The ReBops were introduced in 2002.

Yup. Alder is a good tone wood but not exciting from a grain standpoint.

Totally. And I agree with many about the placement of the strap button towards the center of the body. When the time is right (and Stuart isn't slammed getting ready for NAMM) I'll mention this to him.

I think Phat needs to change his name to "Mr. Euro" I'd be perfectly cool with this. He does know these model's histories better than anyone I've known save PJ and Stuart themselves. He's the go-to guy on this forum for info on the Euro models if you want my opinion.
