Would SS Lo-Riders be too bright for this bass? I want to accentuate the growl of this one to its full potential.

My Euro4LX was wearing DR SS FatBeams, and they had some mean growl to them.

I believe SS give the best growl on Spectors. Once in a while I'll try another make & type of string but I keep going Back to GHS SS FW.

I've only ever used GHS boomers and DM blue steels. Both give some good growl IMO.

I've been using the blue steels mainly as of late though I may try the boomers again.

Ah... strings again...

This comes up every couple of months.

Stuart designed the strings that come on all SPECTOR basses. He played with the design for some time before coming up with the right combination of wrapping, core design/shape and metal.

I use them on all of my basses except my fretless. Which right now has Invalid Link Removed... I have the JC106B - Set Long Scale 040/098.

BY FAR the best carbon flatwound I've ever tried. They are awesome.

I'm sold on these. Jimmy Eppard gave me two sets at NAMM and I put one on about a month ago. Holy-Moly! They are DA BOMB!

As far as everything fretted in my world... I put the SPECTOR® nickel mediums on everything except the NS-2JA-R... I put the light-weights on that.

OK then, SS FTW! I prefer hex core tension, so I'll give the Lo-Riders a go.

Of course, I'll play the bass first with the factory Spector set, and give them a proper evaluation. I wasn't getting a ton of growl when I demoed the Ian Hill, but that may be due to my unfamiliarity of the Ashdown Mag I played through.

I figured I'd ask the Spector faithful this question.
I just sold my 20th anniversary Stingray5. Would going from that to a Euro 5lx be an upgrade, downgrade or a step sideways?

I just sold my 30th Anniversary SR4 and ordered a Euro 4LX. I'm not sure if it's an upgrade or not, but I like the tonal pallette a whole lot more, and the neck through allows lower action. In terms of build quality. they're both rock solid. Two cents from a Spector newb...

I've played an Anniversary SR in a store, and a Rebop in the store (which is a step down from the Euro) and the Euro smoked the SR, easily.

I have an EB Stingray, and it never gets played. My euro 4LX smokes it any day. I'm gonna sell it soon for another Spector.

I find they tend to be different beasts. I like the stingray sound, but it is not NEARLY as flexible as a spector. It can get a few sounds a spector cant, but I would pick a P-J spector over a stingray any day due to comfort and versatility alone.

Thanks for the info. Another question: it seems Spector is big in Metal. My band does mostly 70's rock and old school soul and some blues, given it's versatility, would the 5lx be a good choice?

Yes! I play a Spector Euro 5, NS-95, my bands I play in cover 70s rock, Contemporary Christian Rock and gospel music. I believe Euro 5 LX will have the versatility you're looking for.
