The preamp was just a black box with no markings. It didn't look at all like the version I saw on Spector's site.

The previous owner re-wired it to be Volume/blend with indent instead of volume/volume. I like that setup a LOT better than a volume/volume setup.

I'm at least the 4th TalkBass owner of this bass. Pretty sure I'll be the last. I love it!

I'll take a pic later but like I said, no markings at all. Just a 1x1x2 box with wires coming out of it. No serial #, no knobs, no decals, nothing!

I love it too! Most people complain about the tonepump preamp but I think it's perfect. Really weird that it has no identifying marks on it though. The EMG pickups have bright silver "EMG" decals but the tonepump wants to hide. :hiding:

The neck is so easy to play, the action so crazy low, it took a little while to stop digging in like I do on my Fender P/J. The build quality is so solid, and the solid black paint job flawless.

I also wanted to compare the Euro to an L-2000, another bass I was considering buying. The G&L was good sounding and solidly built, but going back and forth taking turns plugging the two basses in, the playability and tone of the Spector just smoked the L2K.

The Ian Hill Sigs are awesome if you're used to the old school Brooklyn days necks which is what I used to have and what he regularly jams. :bassist:

Ian Hill's main studio and touring bass is his black 1985 Brooklyn NS-2.

A bunch of guys and gals run around with vintage Spectors as their main axe.

Like Doug Wimbish's #1 bass is still his "road warrior" 1987 NS-2. I call his bass the "Road Warrior" because it's covered in dings and scratches... most the time he has the truss cover off... it looks like a 24 year-old road-worn touring bass. But he still gets it to sing like it was new.

This is why I say that Euro Spectors are 80% of what the USA models are... for less than 1/2 the price.

The Euro models are the best deal on the market... They're still hand-made for the majority of the construction. And the build quality is excellent.

There are more Euros on tour professionally than any other model. True professional-level solid instruments. It takes a lot of abuse to take one out of commission.

I must have a V4 again.... If I wasnt going for such a clean tone.. I'd get one in a heart beat.. My Spector+V4 is the best dirty tone i've ever had

Just sealed the deal on some 1st gen Euro 4 goodness. Very stoked!

Love it! The neck isnt very much different than that of my Legend 4, which is what made me fall in love with Spector. The only difference is that the neck is finished like the body, which at first made me wonder if it would stick when I got sweaty.
So far I havent run into any trouble, but this is the only thing I can foresee being any issue at all, but I doubt it would make that big of a difference in the end..

I must have a V4 again.... If I wasnt going for such a clean tone.. I'd get one in a heart beat.. My Spector+V4 is the best dirty tone i've ever had

Yeah, if I have one complaint about Aguilar its that they sound way too crisp and clean. That can be a great thing in certain circumstances, and I love it for certain uses... But overall I like a little character and grit, even if Im playing clean. I may be getting rid of it in the near future and going back to all tube.
That head (which belongs to the jam space we rented) was killer. I have a bunch of distortion/fuzz/ODs anyways, but its "clean" tone with the active jazz pups was disgustingly dirty and gritty. Loved it.
I believe the next head I am getting will be custom built by a guy up here, it will definitely have similar characteristics to that head. All tube, lots of natural oomph and great, but Id like it to clean up a little nicer, still retaining that fullness and body and character.

That's pretty cool to know...and I can understand I think...having an 80's NS-2A it's so comfortable, great neck & playability! And sounds awesome!!!

yeah... If I were in a different band.. I would get one sooner. Theres just too muc things going on sonically and the tight clean tone is much needed

3rd coat of ebony stain. Not sure if I like the color this is coming out in.:hmm:
The fretboard isn't taking much of the stain and I may have to re-sand it
to get the Watco cleaner stuff off more than I evidently was able to so far.
Better too little than too much.;)
There appears to be some sawdust on the fretboard...
