Spector Club - Part 9

Yeah, but thats as far as Ive gotten ahah.
What I need to know now is if anyone knows what brand of pot Spector uses for their tonepump+TWs combination.
Id like to buy the same pot that they had on their if possible, Im considering selling the bass (5LX), and some people would be very particular about something like that?
Any truth to this statement...

I just replaced my white NS2A with this early Euro 4 and I'm totally stoked. Got it last night and immediately replaced the strings and set it up for low C standard tuning. When I plugged it in I noticed that the controls were placed differently than on my CR but after adjusting the dip switch (it's a BTS pre) it sounds the same so go me. I thought the bass might arrive with the Aggie pre but I suspect that it got switched out for the BTS at some point in it's history. The control knobs on the bass were the ones that come with EMG pres, so that's another giveaway as well but no matter. All the work's pretty much been done for me barring the control placement and the knobs. Judging by the spin I took it for last night, this will be just as much the killer as the CR to it's left. Couldn't be happier.
Sorry... the holiday had me out of pocket.
I'll ask Jimmy Eppard, the SPECTOR NY Workshop Shop Master about these pots. He'll know.

gonna be trading my 4 string mim fender deluxe active jazz for a 5 string 1999 or 2000 spector rebop 5, aguilar obp 1, emg hz. actually my main bass at the moment is a spector performer 4 believe it or not this bass kills and is my only time owning a spector, so that being said what can you guys tell me about the rebop 5 compared to my jazz obviously the jazz has 4 strings : )

The main differences will be just about everything.
I don't mean to knock MIM instruments. Many great things are MIM... Salma Hayak for one...
In all seriousness my experience with MIM vs. Czech is that the Czech instruments are better quality all the way around. More along the Highway One USA and Standard USA Fenders.
The active J's vs. the Passive Hz Hummers... it's such a different sound. Single coil to dual coil, active to passive... aperture size and tonal range... you'll be able to get more range from the Hz's in my opinion.
The Auggie tone circuit is clean and adds a nice punch to the Hz pups... it's a nice combo. Aguilar really makes great circuits.
I've never been a fan of the larger, chunky flat bodies that most basses have. When you get that fully carved NS-Body up next to you you'll either love it and become a full-on NS-addict like most of us here or you'll fail to see what the big deal is. That's the way the NS-Body goes.
The necks will be different. The radius on the J is smaller... typically... I've never really played a newer MIM J... only the vintage ones from the early to mid-1960's. And of course if we were talking 4-string to 4-string the nut would be more narrow on the J... The 5-string neck will seem a lot larger... Although the ReBop have .66" spacing at the bridge and not the wide 5-string spacing of .75".
In all it's such a different beast I don't think you can compare them with any fairness to either instrument.
I personally think you're taking a step-up into a nicer bass. It'll have more tonal range (of course with the lo-B you add more range) in regards to the sound you can get from the pups and tone circuit.
And I think the overall production quality will be better. I base this on my experience with MIM Tele and Strat models.
Post pictures when your ReBop arrives. I say this every post where we talk about the ReBop... I LOVE that bass. It's the coolest bolt-on ever. And I know this is blasphemy... but I like the ReBop better than the newer USA Bolt-On bodies. I really love that fully-carved body.
Jeeez, 33$ for a pot? That's a bit steep. Add on shipping and whatever taxes and fees I might get charged and thats a small fortune for something that actually costs a few bucks at most..
Also, Euros dont have the quick connects on them (at least mine doesnt) so I only need the plain pot, which I imagine would be far cheaper without the mini PCB...
Ill have to go for a search around electronics stores up here in Montreal to see if I cant find a suitable pot to swap in...

I used to ship a tool for an OPS Support unit that had a PC board in it The too was about the size of a push broom handle..... that was a ....
$60,000.00 .... tool.

ahhhh the guy came to his senses. he decided not to trade because he said the action was to high on my jazz bass??????? its pretty low in my opinion. but whatever the guy was mainly a guitar player he said. ALMOST had it just gotta keep looking. just gonna have to keep loving my performer (which is my main bass i play it over my mim delux jazz and my jag). but yea i love spectors and the rebop felt so good in my hands. it just wasnt ment to be. thanks for the feedback fellas it really helped

There really isnt much happening on that PCB. All its doing is making the connections for each of the terminals and sending them to the terminals which you can connect the "quick connects" onto.
EMG is charging a lot for something that probably costs them less than $5.00 in total.
In any case, I dont need those connections cause my bass doesnt have the quick connects anyways. I need that pot, but bare, without the PCB.
I'll have my new NS-2 shortly and I just worked out another deal for a really nice NS-2 (a 2009 model) from someone else...

I really don't need 7-8 basses laying around. And as is the case with my USA NS-4... I rarely reach for anything else. So three USA's... I don't need three Euros as well.
I'd sell them with Spector Hard Shell Cases. They are both pristine. And I'd supply a signed and notorized letter stating that the Euro4LX model has been used in numerous music videos and a Prime-Time NBC TV show, SPECTOR advertisements and I'd supply a DVD-ROM with photos from those events and the SPECTOR materials with the bass in it.
Any of you guys interested? PM me. I won't have time to list them officially until Sunday.

Well folks, I'm proud to say..I'd like to join your Spector club!
Just picked up this USA NS-5H2W at an incredible price. I've wanted a wide spaced Spector 5 for years, and feel blessed to be able to get this one. I'd also like some info from the Spector guys on cleaning the finish...it's not natural oil, so do I just need to use regular old Dunlop 65 cleaner on it?
