Spector Club - Part 9

Well folks, I'm proud to say..I'd like to join your Spector club!

Just picked up this USA NS-5H2W at an incredible price. I've wanted a wide spaced Spector 5 for years, and feel blessed to be able to get this one. I'd also like some info from the Spector guys on cleaning the finish...it's not natural oil, so do I just need to use regular old Dunlop 65 cleaner on it?

Congrats. That's a great bass. Set up like a Stingray with the single MM at the bridge. I didn't get a chance to play it... but I wanted to.

To care for the finish. Yes! Dunlop Formula 65.
It's a matte polyeurothane finish. Very durable and yet easier to care for than the old oil stains are. Stuart uses the matte poly finish on all USA Spectors (that are not high-gloss obviously).

Should be here Thursday afternoon.

Its in Balimer Md.

I've been looking at these for some time now. Finally bought one on bEay...

The seller says after 5 days, "looks like this bass has a bad neck! I'll let you know when we get another one".
Long story short, after 2 weeks, I asked for my money back. I think he was selling a picture.

Called Spector dealers and learned they aren't availble anymore.

Located one at NW Bass, purchased it and it came today.

It plays nice and is comfortable and light, everything is tight and adjusted well. The finish is very nice(amberglow). The machine heads work well. I also got a Spector gig bag, a cheap one, but it's fine for now.

The color isn't as bright as the pics on the internet and that's fine by me.

I don't really care for the lined neck.

Knobs need indents or markers.

I've played stereo basses for sooo long, that I'll probably re-wire it stereo. I always seem to have trouble mixing the sounds(balance) with 2 PU basses....hence the stereo thing.(and I told myself I wasn't going to re-wire it stereo!)

It's my first bass with piezo/Fishman PU bridge.....weird....I'll get used to it.... think I'll like it better stereo....better control.

All my basses have Dunlop straplocks on them(except my RIC), I have black ones ordered for this bass.

Thanks for looking.

My Ibanez case is a tad of loose fit for my Legend. What's the difference in size of the NS2000 and the Legend?
I have not tried the fit on for my NS-2J but I think that's even a bit smaller than the Legend...
Where are you at (state) I saw a Spector by Kramer HSC on the C list in ... NC, TN area? 30 bucks...

hey, everyone, new to the forum... was passin' through and saw this, thought i'd ask which ibanez case you were using.

i just got a spector legend 5 (black cherry!), and i've got a chance to get a rather inexpensive (used) ibanez case for it:

is that what you're using? if not, does anyone know if it'd be a fit?

i'm rather particular about cases, so i just thought i'd ask.

thanks! :)

I've always loved hollow bodies. With that humbucker in the sweet spot that thing must be fat fat fat. Looks great to.

I've never seen another Spector/MM either. You'd be amazed at the low end that comes out of this thing, it's just massive. Neck pickup need not apply :)

You can opt for MM pups on any of the USA Bolts. PJ says one of the best sounding SPECTORs he's every heard was a dual MM NS-5H2 Stuart made last summer.

At NAMM we had a couple of basses with the MM pup in the neck position.

Nope, I'm using a TKL case, probably for an SR series - no model number anywhere in/on the case.
Looks just like my Spector case, except it says "IBANEZ".
Here are some pics of my Legend 4 in it.
Loaded, the lower body fits very well, the upper body/wings are about 3/4" to narrow and the upper horn about 3/4 to 1 inch too short to fit like a glove. See last pic.
Th Sharpie in the pic is 3"4 inch thick, btw, and is the only gap between the bass and the cavity when positioned that way. Which is how it would be when you oped the case due to gravity.

actually, TKL is contracted to make all of ibanez's cases; the pic i posted is a case specificaly for the SR series, so i'm inclined to believe that if your Legend 4 fits in that case, my Legend 5 should fit in the ABS case.

thanks - you've helped a great deal!

I don't know what this case is made for but by the looks of it having a cavity in the top as well as the bottom that appears to be 2" deep each.
I would guess it's for a 4" thick bass (Semi-hollow)) or for 2 basses and missing the enter divider.

Other than being fretless, this is identical to mine, which I've had for 14 months. It is a fun instrument! My finish is brighter than yours, more "orange juice on ice" than "iced tea" colored.

I've made two changes to mine. Since I play at church a lot, I added a Hipshot drop-D tuner to get the Ds and Ebs that show up so often. Also swapped the HZ pickup for a SGD Nd3 pickup. I feel this opened up the sound, giving it a more hi-fi presence. With flats, it has a nice broad tone.

Ditto on the treble. Zingy! (That reminds me that I need to adjust the piezo preamp down a little to match the neck output better.)

Congrats on the new axe! :D

Ah, yeah, stacked knobs but, it doesn't "look" like it's very snug. Looking at the impressions of the knobs on the top...
Now I see why some of the Spectors on fleabay with stacked knobs and TKL cases have cracked finishes around the stack.
Looking at the depth of the cavity in the top, there really isn't much impact protection for the knobs....

Thanks,
Camera and flourescent lighting......color is prob close to yours....orange for sure.
Other than the knob control...how do you adjust the piezo preamp...inside?:help:
thanks again!
