Please answere or comment folowing things

He is worried that Spectors neck wont support this kind of gauage of strings

-Than he said if I tightend truss rod to much so the neck wrapped and he will have to change the frets.

-Now he will test the extreams of truss rod movements so he can see if the neck will support Black nylon strings and if the neck is in good condition ,than he will set intonation.

I would contact Spector and discuss this with them, anyway.
Get their thoughts.
Though I highly doubt that there are "many" Czech Spectors with this problem, it is possible that a run of necks were misaligned during fret placement and Spector my be aware of it and have a plan for remedy.

Those strings list the B as .130. That is not an unusual size. Since you have played them, do you remember if they had a very high tension?

This sounds like he may be trying to make money from you when the work is not needed. I hope he does not over-tighten your truss rod to the point of breaking when he is "testing" it.

From what you say, I would be suspicious of his motives, no matter how experienced he says he is.

I'm new to the Spector camp and absolutely love the sounds of the Tonepump in my Euro 4LX. What, specifically, does the Haz Lab do better? Please don't say "everything!" ;)

Hey Steamthief. You know, honestly, the Tone Pump is not a bad preamp if it has the internal trimpot. I owned a newer bass that had the tonepump with the internal trimpot and it sounded very good live, but I'm so far removed from that bass now that I can't compare the new hazlab pre bass and the old tonepump. My current Euro had the older tonepump that didn't have the trimpot to reduce output. Problem is, the old version had such high output that it distorted just about everything. It was way too dirty.

So I had a choice, get the new tonepump. Or get the sound that I knew I had in my head (the old 80's/90's US Spector sound). The tonepump can be close, but I didn't know if it was going to be "exactly" the same, so I went for the sure thing. :)

Thanks for your honest feedback! I've got the newer Tonepump, and the bass was hotter than anything I've ever played when I unboxed it! I set the trim pot somewhere around 40-50% and l now have the ideal bass sound I've been hearing in my head.

Still, I'd love to hear a pure maple winged, Haz Labbed Spector, just to know what I'm missing. On second thought, that might not be a good idea gas-wise.....

So I gigged with the Euro 5LX this last Saturday. I got a call from Jay Summerour and Daryl Davis to sit in with them. So I thought I could take my mid 70's passive hollowbody strung with 10 year old flats, since they're an old school boogie blues band, OR I could take my totally modern, 35 inch scale, neck through, active 5 string. I took the 5 :D
I knew I needed a fat tubby tone so I just played through the neck pickup, rolled the treble way back and played finger style up by the last fret on the neck. Way fat tubby tone with no mud and just a hint of zing. Jay and Daryl loved it.
This Saturday I get to gig the 5LX with my soul/rock/blues band. This thing should kill. I'm impressed with the versatility.:hyper: :bassist:

The body halves are delaminating, right? Split up the middle?
It either got hot or squashed depending on HOW it's "cracked".
If it gets hot enough (house fire) it will split the lamination of the body halves. If it's cracked, it most likely got squashed or squeezed real bad. :eek:Either is a fairly simple repair with the right tools.
Send me some pics, I'll see if I can help you or at least give you a second opinion.... You're talking about a Spector Legend 5 Classic - bolt on neck, right?

I have to say that the Customer Service I get from Spector is far above ANY other company I have dealt with.

I was actually surprised when PJ said "Yes, We can." to my inquiry of buying a replacement face lamination WITH the Spector inlay already applied!:hyper:.

I almost didn't even ask... Even though they are familiar with this particular project.
I figured it was a LOOOOOOOOONG shot and had a HIGH probability of being declined as a quality control or image issue.
That someone might try to apply the lamination to something other than a Spector headstock...
and I would have TOTALLY understood.

I will probably, in the future, buy a replacement neck but, in the mean time I will repair this one and play it.
As Is, it plays as good if not better than my Legend 4 :D so, I'm already happy with it.

The neck is faster and thinner than original, similar to the Ibanez SR series necks if not a tad say... smaller around. I don't have big hands so it works great for me.:D

I'm waiting on a few samples of exotic woods to mock up the body with (Ebony, bloodwood, purple heart, etc)... but soon I will be "done" more or less and can post new pics of the completed project.

Right now I'm trying to decide what color hardware to go with;
All gold
All black (stock)
or a two tone scheme...
gold tuners black keys and nuts
black tuners with gold keys and nuts....
decisions, decisions......:confused:
