I don't like the spring loaded bridge it has.

Specs says it SHOULD have an A type Hipsot in BLACK

but it has a B type Hipshot like this in BLACK

Actually the specs are for the newer versions of the USA Bolt-Ons.

The NS-2JA models like you have were built with the Hipshot B bridge. If you want to change it that's fine, but the Hipshot B is the "stock" bridge for your bass.

what I wanted was the locking bridge in gold but I think it is only 3.75" wide and the stock B bridge (mine) is 4" wide... leaves a gap in the routing for the set-in bridge.

What do you think the difference in tone or sustain might be, if any?

What does the A stand for? mine just says NS-2J not NS-2JA

Actually the dimensions of the USA locking bridge is 4"x2".
The Euro is 4" by 1.75"

You're doing SO much work regarding the restoration of your bass, I say if you want the USA Locking Bridge, route the space out as needed to accomodate it. The new bridge with intonation screws is so nice. It's the best bridge on the market and I've owned a bass with the Hipshot A.

Tonally... I can't really compare. The bass I owned with the hipshot had non-EMG pups (not sure the brand) and the tone circuit was completely different. I'd say the fair comparison would be two identically set up basses, each with the different bridge if you want to know how the bridge affects tone.

Sorry... the original J/J Spector bolts were called the NS-2JA Not sure what the A stands for. I sometimes default back to that name... mainly because I have the NS-2JA reissue model.

I told PJ I wanted to do this episode first because:
1) it has the most technical info in it.
2) I'm tired of the TonePump bashing. Once you look at the science, it's an amazing circuit.

The USA 9v circuit, being solid state, doesn't use Op-Amps either. I haven't had a chance to discuss the circuit in depth with HazLabs (the contractor who makes it for SPECTOR) like I have with the designer of the TP, but it's on the list of things to do.

Glad you guys appreciate the effort to get the information boiled down into a format that makes sense.

My wife watched the video after I was done and she understood what I was saying. She's very, very intelligent, but not musicially inclined. So if she "got it" I figured a bassist definately would.

I'm also working with Stuart and PJ to take the history section of the site and turn it into a 30 minute documentary.

Hehehe yeah I don't know that I've recently or since getting back into Spector almost 2 years ago now said it sounded "bad", but it's always definitely been confusing, IMO at least, since inception. This helps a WHOLE whole lot! I understand the methodology behind it better now and after watch a few more times will be ready to go on all things TP related.

Dunlop Formula 65...

I get the kit that has the neck cleaner and conditioner in it, the body cleaner and wax. There's a "string" cleaner too. I've used it but then my fingers get dirty from playing because the stuff that comes of the strings... LOL.

I use the neck conditioner regularly. Because LA is very dry... very arid, my necks seem to dry out pretty fast. So once a month I condition them.

The video is very cool, well done!

I measured the B type and my Legends locking bridge, the Legends bridge is 3.5" W and not wide enough to fill the route area not that I would cannibalize my Legend for it. I would just buy another. I think the 4x2 is what I'll need anyway....
I don't wanna reroute the counter route for the bridge, so I'll probably just leave the A style on it.
I don't want to get too far away from the original look even though it has some major repairs, ya know what I mean?
