I was thinking of changing out my EMG HZ's for regular EMG's. Any suggestion for what to get? I know the standard is the DC's but I've heard people say they like the others too.

35P in the neck, 35DC in bridge (or 35J..but the DC has more b@lls)
DC in the bridge? I keep hearing that DC's in the bridge are too harsh. Does anyone know where there are some good sound clips of the differences between the EMG's?
I know I'm not a current club member (eventually I WILL get another Spector!!!), but I put a set of 35Js in a Kubicki Ex-Factor a long time ago...I liked them a lot. When you are using a good preamp they really cut through but still have a good low end bump to them.

Thanks. I just can't quite decide. They'd be going in a Legend Custom. The HZ's really have low output and honestly don't sound as good as the SSD's to my ears, but I think I'd rather go for some real EMG's.
Depends on exactly which tone you're after. The DCs will sound more like the 5-string Spectors, bigger lows, more even tone across the spectrum and a little more versatile than the P/J setup. But, the P/J setup is what you want for maximum growl and punch. So, if you're after more versatility, I would go for the pair of 35 DCs. If you're after the standard Spector tone, which is a little more aggressive than the DCs with less lows and more low mids, go for the 35P/35J setup. Its the same as the regular P/J setup, but in soapbar housings.

I've fallen for a Spector. Head over heels in fact. I owned a Euro LX 4 a while ago and it was very good but didn't stay despite me improving (imo) it with an ACG01 with passive control.
I got the love for 5 string of 17mm spacing with my mates Kinal.
I then traded my 4001CS for this and I've added a U-Retro for the sweepable mids that I use a whole lot more than 2EQ Bass/Treble.
Here she is, 15 of 24 water aged redwood :

I have a feeling that 5 strings and Spector are going to be where I settle after over 10yrs of lots of basses.

WHAT?!? Really!?! I tried to get them to do that years ago. It's one of the reasons I stoped using Spectors for a while (not a huge fan of tight 17mm spacing on 5 & 6's).
If it's true, I hope they extend it to the 6's and the Euro's.

Yup, I think I even read it on here TBH.
Same with me. I don't mind the tighter spacing on a 4, but on a 5'er, their spacing is just way too tight for my big mitts. My MTD 535 feels perfect, so if they'd do it that way, I'd be trading up asap!
I think that the 17mm spacing is one of the reasons I get on so well with the Spector. Big hands too.

I used to play an NS5CRFM exclusively, so i was used to it, but then as I got older I had some basses with 19mm spacing and on a 5'er, I'm just spoiled I guess!
I don't mind them for straight playing, and even prefer it some if I'm doing a song where I'm chording a lot (play in a lot of trios). But the minute someone needs some slap and I don't have my (wider spaced) 4 string on, I hate it.

Ha yeah I know what you mean.
And normally guys who use a lotta pickstyle like me don't mind the spacing, but it's the LH spacing that bugs me as opposed to where it is on the body.
I was always thought my Euro 5LX was 19mm string spaced..... Hmmmm. Hahah, I'll have to measure it tomorrow

Does anyone have a US Spector with an EMG P5J set in? Surely this would appeal to many players. I guess they'd do it as a custom special?
