nope, if you look at the Korean series ones like the Legend and Classic series the 5s and 4s have the same head stock.
If you ever see one of the few 5's from the 80's, the headstocks were kind of halfway between the full width of a current Legend and what they are now on a USA or Euro.
I prefer the wider-at-the-top headstock as well.
If money was no issue, Id have a neck through Euro 5 made with the same headstock as the Legends, no fret markers and in a similar finish the red 5er that's second from the right in the picture at the top of the page.

Absolutely. When I first saw the narrower headstocks on the 5 and 6's, I assumed it was because of a string pull issue over the nut. Then, when the Legends came out with the full size headstock I was confused as to why they didn't keep it the same on the USA and Euros.
I 100% agree that the "Gumby" headstock is an intregal and recognizable part of the Spector design.

I definitely find that it sticks out. Not in a terrible way or anything.. its just different.
I think its a very bold and aggressive look, especially with the inlays they chose. Which again, I dont hate, but I prefer either dots, or nothing on the frets. Or something a lot more subtle.

I'm in a different camp here. Although I do love a bare fingerboard, I've never cared for dots and don't like big inlays either, EXCEPT......
I've always dug the Spector crown inlays, EXCEPT......
I agree with the poster several posts (pages?) back.
The single 12th fret inlay (second bass from the right) would have looked better with the "Double S" Spector logo than the single crown.
The single crown is so big/thick it sticks out like a sore thumb.

I just said dots, cause I prefer the dots over the crowns. Though I do find dots plain and boring looking.

Doug Wimbish Euro Spector.
Anyone tried one and is it worth the money? I have a Euro LX 4 and a Euro LX535 and they are hands down my absolute favourite instruments. The look, feel, play and sound so amazingly good.
I'm thinking of selling a bunch of my other gear and buying myself another Spector, but don't want to spend the massive money a new US model costs. Would a Doug Wimbish model be worth the money? So far as I can tell the only differences are a skinnier neck and a cap of US wood on top and a slice of walnut too...
Failing that, what would you recommend as another Spector?

And another question, what are the NS-2JA-R bolt neck basses like? Is the JJ set-up much different sounding to the standard P/J?

im in a dilemma.. ive never played a euro5.. but i have played a rebop 5.. im wondering if i should get a a couple rebops or a custom euro5... I'll be switching the pups out of both to some SGD pickups so pickups arent going to be in the deciding factor.
the rebop i loved the feel and it was the first bass i ever said "wow this is just comfortable to play?!"
but im really curious on the euros... got sometime before i pull the trigger.. so anything help would be great guys!

YES! They are very different. The mid-tones on the NS-2JA-R are much more pronounced. It also has the EMG tone control, which I find to be much less "hot" that the Tone Pump. I can get some rumbly lows without the flatness that sometimes comes out of the Tone Pump.
I love the sound I get out of my NS-2JA-R. The neck is wider at the 24th fret than your Euro 4LX. And I love how easy the Badass bridge is to set up compared to the exercise in patience the Spector bridge requires (the new intonation screws on the new USA bridges should greatly help this).
It's all around a great bass. I've been shocked to see them priced so low lately.
If you see a deal... grab it. I'd get rid of my 4LX before I'd get rid of my JA-R.

I haven't played any Euro 5's since they switched the name. I had an NS5CRFM for a while w/ the DC's and 18V EMG preamp (cut + boost) and it was an excellent bass, except the truss rod had an issue which made adjustments a little difficult but it didn't affect tone or playability as I liked how it was set up anyway.
The ReBops I've played were good, but not on the same level. You'll get some people vehemently disagreeing with that, but compared to the old "Euros" or Czech models, it's a pretty big gap. I don't know firsthand what the new Euro models are like comparatively speaking, as I haven't played any 5'ers.
FWIW, I don't really like NT on a 5+ string bass anymore, which is why I opted for the USA NS5H2 model. I still prefer it on a 4 banger tho, when at all possible.
