One point of clarification, and mentioned above, is the neck spec being cloned from Ian's 80's bass neck dimensions refers to the front to back depth, and not the width at the nut. Being old school I tend to refer to "narrow" as a being a width description whereas this is what I would refer to as a "thin" neck (or depth measuring the front of the fingerboard to the back of the neck).

I guess it's a matter of symantics... I've somehow got width in my head meaning the width of the neck at the nut or any other point down the fret board (parallel with the frets)... I would use thickness to discribe the measurements from front of the fret board to the back of the neck... I totally understand what you mean.

So I apologize for the misunderstanding... my bad... I kept hearing about the narrower neck width of the Ian Hill model and assumed it was similar to the Wimbish... which has a jazz nut measurement of 1.5'' as opposed to the standard Spector 1.65"

But I get it now. I haven't been turned off by the neck "thickness" as I've heard some people have. And ironically when you measure the width of my new Euro4lx and my NS-2JA-R, the JA-R's neck is noticably wider at the 24th fret. And I actually like this wider, thicker neck better.

Go figure. I'd love to try an Ian Hill model. And I'm counting the days until my USA NS-4 gets here. PJ says I'm getting the last Water Cured Redwood body they have. It's like I'm 5 again and having to wait an enternity for Christmas...

Thanks for the info and sharing the great pics.

One note on these...
If I ever order new ones... I won't go with the abalone.

They are flat/non-reflective from any angle other than straight on... so if you use these as a visual reference on the neck as you play... you're gonna have a hard time seeing them. The abalone blue is pretty and they look real... but you can't hardly see them worth a flip.

I would suspect the MOP version is much easier to see. So I'd recommend going with it.

How do those decal inlays stand up to string bending right on top of them? I do a lot myself and that would be the only concern I would have for getting (any) set of those inlays from that ebay store. Lookin at those black blocks for some maple necks I've got that need more...zazz

So far so good on the string bending. I myself do a lot of string bending and tapping (Van Halen style) and I work the area between the 12th and 24th frets pretty hard (thus my quote about "if it wasn't meant to be played that way how come I can?"

I get a lot of flack from more traditional players on how I use the bass to create sound. Anyway... these decals are strong. I haven't changed how I play and over a month later they're still like new.

I love my spector... low action, fast neck, great tones. nuff said

I checked out your MySpace page. Pretty cool. But I didn't see any photos of you playing your Spector. I mean I saw one that looked like it could be a Spector... but the image didn't show enough of the guitar.

I did see you playing a black and white P bass.

Post us some photos man! We're all about the visuals here...:bassist:

I think I remember this from the previous thread, but has anyone replaced their EMG-TW pickups yet? I like the concept as I've had it on other basses, but I think the sentiment is there's so much volume dropoff it's almost useless in a live setting if you don't have a pedal or amp boost to compensate, which may or may not change your tone...

Thinking of going with DC's in my new NS5 or maybe P/J's.

I still have my TWs in my Euro. I never used the coil tap mode, but when I got my East pre amp, I wired it as such so that I couldnt coil tap.

The pot setup wouldnt allow me to anyways.

I like them, I think they sound clear, punchy and defined. A good mix with the woods and build of the bass. There might be a better option out there.. but Im not up to date on pickups at all haha.

My "new" NS2a ( Custom ? )

In this photo you have my:

Legend Classic (note the standard abalone neck decals)
NS-2JA-R (note the custom abalone neck decals)
Euro-4LX

Missing are my NS-2A (still in the shop)
and my USA NS-4 (still being built by Mr. Spector and crew).

I'll have the Hercules 5-guitar rack full shortly...
