For all of you that have heard me "whining" in various Spector threads about the Zebrawood models and how I'd love to own one? It's a "handshake agreement" until Monday as the 'lill woman is away presenting several papers at a conference and anything over $50/a new bass we take care of together as a general rule ( out of respect for each other more than anything else :) ) but hopefully this will be arriving sometime next week;

Ha! - you don't know just how true you are, Chris! The owner has actually mentioned he had a Zebrawood he was willing to sell in a thread about "lightweight basses" in the FS a few weeks back, and I got in touch with him back then to see if he was "actively" selling it or just mentioned it. He said he would be fairly soon, and that he'd give me "right of first refusal" when he listed it. Once he showed me photos I was hooked: IMO, this is certainly one of the better/best tops Spector or whoever is supplying their tops has made.

I discussed it with the SO who agreed as long as my current non-Maple top, non-Crown Inlays, non-DLX but still a kickass hunk of wood 4-string gets listed along with several others and it's a neutral deal, she'd be okay with it. The owner PMed me last night letting me know he was listing the bass and giving me the first chance at it (a truly class act, he is :) ), I gave the SO a quick call to see if it was doable, it was for her as I'd be downsizing another further 2-3 basses, and I let him know I was down. :D

I think the best thing after the bass itself is that "This. Is. It." :) I've been wanting one of the Zebrawoods for a while now, and I feel that my "stable" is complete... and even before than, for the last several months I've felt a lessening of GAS in general. Until I have the "throwaway" money to pick up a custom Mike Lull or USA Spector, I feel I'm set in terms of tone and playability.

Spectors 4-strings are 1.675" @ the nut if memory serves, the same width as a modern Precision Bass. As for the width front-to-back or "thickness", IMO they're nowhere near the "Warwick Bat". It's a "good" size, enough meat to wrap your hand around and not thin enough that when you play there's no wood where your hand wants to be which can cause all sorts of hand and wrist issues (Carpel-Tunnel, etc)

I would have gotten one soon as I was putting cash from a few sales toward it, but the one I got is a beauty - a touch more dark/"caramel" then most of the others I've seen, and the owner has been a wonderful guy, giving me first shot at it when he listed it today after I enquired about it a few weeks ago. That's TalkBass class for you! :)

I don't like you, Dave. Why? Because you have the bass that is giving me such GAS pains! That's a beauty! While I love the sound of the through neck with the soapbars, I also love the sound of a bolt-on with the J pickups. They have an incredible punch with the massive low end that Spector is known for.

Congratulations on being the proud owner of that bass.

Well, here I am as Spector Club member #3 and have never posted pics. I should be ashamed. My new Spector is reason to celebrate, but I'll save that one for last.

First up is my 1983 US Spector from the original Brooklyn factory. All stock with the hazlab preamp and a badass bridge. As you can see, she has many miles on her and someone sanded down the back of the neck.

You'll see in the second pic what is supposedly Victor Wooten's signature. No way to verify but that is what the old Bass Palace told me.

Second up is my Spector Euro LX with a bubinga top. Picked this up in 2005 from Bass Central. It's got a unique tone-sort of a cross between a Spector and Warwick-really cuts through nicely though.

Last but not least is my newest bass. I just picked this up last week from The Perfect Bass (what a great store-Brandt and his crew are a pleasure to deal with). Anyway, brand new Spector US NS4. It has walnut wings and a buckeye burl maple top. Amazing sound, amazing craftsmanship, just perfect. Happy Fathers Day to ME!!!

Thanks, I'm pretty sure it is the real deal, but nothing to document the authenticity so to speak. Not that it matters as it is just a cool bass and only so many were made in the original factory much less with the Badass bridge.

By the way Chris2112, I noticed you are from Newcastle! My best pal is from Hexham (sp?) but has been in the states for almost 20 years now. He got me into soccer and following the good ol "Magpies". Catch them when I can on the soccer channel here and have a closet full of United jerseys he and his brother have brought me over the years!

Sorry for the non Spector content!
