Just got a beauty Zebra Rebop 5!

Purchased a pristine fiver from a very nice TB member. Will get photos ASAP (i know the rule: no pics, no bass)

He had the action set quite high...Im a lowdown sort of guy. Still working on action and relief. The bass feels fantastic.

Tone pump is probably going to go...i like aguilar pre's.

First impression: Total love with the HUGE, clear bottom and top.

Stay tuned.

Yer on the right track Tom :)

The Custom has a fairly thin profile compared to many. The Classic is a tad more beefy by comparison --not a bad thing depending on what you're looking for but I definitely wanted thinner, which the set-neck on the Custom allows.

I tried a lot of 5ers in the $500-600 range (Ibby, Yamaha, Schecter, etc) and the Peavey Millenium was the closest in feel to the Spector in the neck (and no offence to the the Peavey players but the I thought the Legend Custom had it beat for quality and attention to detail and worth the extra $).

In fact, I bought the Custom for the neck and the string spacing. Lord knows I'm still not reconciled to that gold hardware :)

See my post here for a pic of the Custom showing the neck, though it does not show the profile it will give you some idea

By the way, the set-up on this bass was great out of the box. Low and nearly even. The set neck scares some people off, though it does have a truss rod, I have not had to tweak it. I like the stock strings too, which I believe are made by GHS.

Good luck.
And let us know how you make out.

Well when i get one ill be ordering of the internet, probly get one of ebay and save $500. So I need to know what they are like.

I'll be going to the capital city (of the state) on tuesday to see Children of Bodom. While I'm there ill try find a spector to play on.

Recently I was thinking of selling my spector, but last night I was playing it, and I just feel it's the best playing bass I've ever had. I don't know what I was thinking.

I may just sell everything else! (well, not really)

This guy says this bass is rare:

How so? Looks like an American NS2J that is produced today?

It's rare in the sense that they don't regularly make these anymore. One can be custom ordered (I'm assuming), but it's not part of their current lineup. You honestly aren't going to find many of these on the market. Nice bass - I'd snatch it up if I had the loot!

The ones you're referring to (I think?) are the Czech made NS-2JA-R reissue models. Those are somewhat rare, too (only 83 made of each of the three finishes offered).

Thanks. But I see these on Musicians Friend, so I have to ask. Same thing, and better inlays.

That is interesting. I think MF is not 100% accurate in their description. You'll notice on Spector's website that this model (NS-4H2, 'H' meaning humbucker) [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] is the actual model. Also, one of the pictures on MF's site (the black stain model) has the dual humbuckers (see below). Probably just a misprint... a big one :), but that's it.

Also, it's possible that they have a few of the 'J' models left in stock. I saw that they have two seperate listings for the NS4H2FM on their site.

Can you guys help me identify my new Spector? I believe it is an early Euro. The serial number isn't stamped into the wood like on the newer models. It's actually hand written on a small sticker in the control cavity. The bass was supposed to have a tone pump preamp, but I think it may have been switched out. The bass and treble controls have a center detent (cut/boost?) and the pan control is from EMG. Any ideas?

Yep somebody "tonedumped" it.
Probably a BTS system I'd assume, from the sight of two circuit boards:

Looks like an early NS4CRFM. Nice one too! I'd like to find one with the dot inlays.

i went into a couple of stores. the first had nothing really, but i found out how bad warwick necks are. then i went into billy Hyde (in the valley Brisbane) and they had a WALL of spectors. they didnt have what i was looking for but close. I played a E5? its in the same price range as the legend custom 5, with jazz and MM pups.

it felt so good to play, wasnt completly sold on the tone though. I played a Schecter C5 which has the same pups as the Custom 5, and it sounded sweet. the C5 had a better neck though.

FYI i was playing through an Ampeg BA or somthing, with 2x10.
