Spector Coda Jazz basses - What do you think?

What does it sound like? More of a jbass or a Spector?
I think the logo is a little boring, but the shape, IMO, is awesome.

I still just can't get past that logo and headstock, but mainly the logo. Why is it so crooked? I'd still love to have one, though just because!
Millons of bassist already have this bass, but with the fender logo.
What is the point of building an identical model?
A bassist who looks for a Spector isnt looking for a Jazz tone and viceversa.

Spector has quality metrics that Fender only dreams of. I own a Korean Spector and I've played older American-made and European Spectors.
They are flawless pieces of work in my experience. I have already decided this is my next new bass. I have been wanting to bring my Korean Spector back out for shows, but it is rather heavy. The idea of having a Spector take on the Jazz model is intoxicating. I love my Squier VMJ but I'm ready to save up for the next "nice" instrument, and I've set my sights on the Coda.
When I ordered my NS-20004 10 years ago, it took a long time for the bass to show up. Finally I got a call at my desk at work, and it was none other than Stuart Spector himself calling to apologize. He had taken the bass I wanted to a show and was calling me to tell me he was arranging for a brand-new one to be shipped to me.

It looks just like any Jazz but with a different headstock (which is ugly, but I can ignore it for how amazing the bass plays and sounds).
..............I never even heard of the Spector CODA Bass model, but just happened to come across one this week on a business trip. This thing is still new to me, but is the most amazing Jazz bass that I have ever played!!It is a vintage Fender type J-Bass, so don't let the fret count fool you, this bass is very capable! Someone also mentioned the stacked knob looking out of place...........This bass is active, so it has the extra controls. It is actually active/passive with a push/pull control pot. Let me tell you the Aguilar Pre-Amp and Pick-ups kick butt. Turn up the the outer control knob on the stacked Pre-Amp control and you will have the "thickest" sounding Jazz bass you ever heard!!
This bass is truly amazing, if you like J-Basses, this is one to try!!
OK. I am about to order a Coda 5, could you tell me if there is noise/significant noise when you solo the pickups ? I just need to know so I could choose between the Aguilar single coils, or humcancelling pickups, since I use the bridge pickup alone a lot . Thanks.

I don't think you get much of any noise when soloing pickups! Unless your room is very noisy (in electrical terms) you shouldn't have any problems. I could take some videos/ sound clips with the Coda Deluxe 4 I have right now if you'd like! (Send me a PM)
Hate to see Spector going the Fender copy route. There are already zillions of companies that do the copy thing...Spector is one of the few unique successful companies that came up with a classic bass that has stood the test of time despite being initially associated with 80's hair bands. You don't see a company like Rickenbacker copying Fender...
...also that thing looks cheap as hell. Reminds me of a 1987 "Series 10" bass with the metallic orange that everyone and their mama painted all the 80's Korean copy guitars with. And that thing is made in the USA??!?? If their goal was to make a USA copy of an 80's copy of an 80's Squier, they did a good job.
And who let Stevie Wonder cut that headstock and apply that plain terrible logo???

You should really touch and play one of these basses. What you get for the money is amazing, especially compared to that other New York make jazz bass company (ahem ahem).
I was apprehensive at first too, but after playing one I fell in love. Now I've had 2!
Also, the headstock has changed slightly on newer models.

That's kinda like seeing Shaquille O'Neal wearing a dress and then saying he's much more of a woman than your own mom.
